530i someone key’d my car
I have a 2017 530ix. I recently noticed a key scratch on the left rear door. I am leasing this car and have 9 months left on my lease.
I am confused between fixing this now using my insurance (500 deductible) or waiting till the lease end and let BMW charge me for this at the end. What will you guys suggest?? Thanks |

Yikes, feel your pain - I had some jerk key both rear quarter panels on my 135i. Can't understand what makes people lash out like that.

That's awful sorry to see that. Yes, that will need to be fixed or you'll be charged. I agree to wait and see what the charge will be since it's a lease and you're turning it in

So should I wait for the end of the lease term? Will I get an option to get it fixed before turning it in to a BMW dealer? Will the dealer give me an estimated charge?

Me too BUT even if I park far away where no one else is, some idiot will pull in and park right next to me even though there are lots of closer empty spaces.

Yikes right into the paint, what scumbags man, sorry you have to deal with that.
That said, different dealers handle it differently. If you more or less guarantee your next lease with that same dealer they'll probably be willing to help you out a little more. You can always take it to them prior to turning it in and get an estimate cost but I agree with steve090619 wait to do anything just before trading it in. In the meanwhile doesn't hurt to get a few quotes from local places that can just do a good cover up without needing a whole panel respray and blend. Odds are that will cost you less than any deductible or BMW repair quote.

My experience with this working at a BMW dealer for 7 years is as noted above: wait until a couple of weeks ahead of lease turn in. Contact the dealer for a pre-turn in inspection. They will give you a cost estimate for what they will charge you for the repair (as well as noting anything else that needs attention). Most of the time that charge is less than you can get from a body shop. And you wouldn't want it painted so that the paint does not match the rest of the car cause they might catch that and charge for it. Unless it is major damage it is likely that you will be best off simply to leave it and get charged by BMW FS (via the dealer). Also save the hassle of having to take it to a shop, leave it for a several days without a loaner, etc. Just my thoughts. --Bob
