Connected Drive/MyBMW/Apps Confusion

Sorry in advance is I am missing something. I don't really use Connected Drive much and I am aware of the sunset and the shift to MyBMW. This morning I decided to download an app I thought might be in the store (Spotify). I got the attached message telling me Connected Drive was no longer available in My Vehicle and to Subscribe or Renew with a website. I was puzzled because I know I have every subscription available. When I went to MyBMW and then to the Connected Store, I don't see any reference to apps? Did they discontinue this feature for the older G30's? I still have apps listed like Weather and Flicker in the car.

What am I missing here or is there no more app support?

The message you see there is due to BMW removing the in car store for Connected Drive. It basically just sends you to the web portal now which makes sense as I doubt anyone would manage their sub from the car.

As for Spotify. The native Spotify app is only on iDrive 7+ And runs via “ConnectedDrive Music” where it uses the car’s SIM card to work without the phone. For iDrive 6 cars I believe this worked using the Spotify app on the phone interacting with the BMW head unit. I think Spotify removed this functionality from their app though.

Thank you Alex. Is it safe to say integrated BMW apps are no more for the iDrive 6 cars?

Curious, does your 2018 have Apple Carplay? I thought ID6 does so you can use Spotify there, which is a lot more intuitive. I never thought to download any of the BMW apps that are available on Carplay or Android Auto.

It does and I use it all the time. I just wanted to check out how it worked as a BMW App because it's buggy lately. But I am running iOS 15 beta.

Got it. Before ID6 I used the BMW apps (including Spotify) and I was not a big fan of them due to the interface.

I am sure, I bet it was barebones. Was/are BMW apps android based? I was just messing around this morning as I don't even know if I have been in the Connected Drive menu before. Not something I really used on my F10 and with Apple CarPlay, even less of a reason. Although I think the Weather and Traffic apps there now feed notifications.

But I am curious now if BMW just took this functionality away from ID6 owners.

I am not sure. I am an Android user but had to resort to my work Iphone in the M2 due to not having Android Auto. All I remember is that I used bluetooth streaming over Spotify app in my previous cars because the integration wasn't the best.

I can confirm this. Spotify on my 2018 just opens Spotify on my phone. I was a bit disappointed as I was hoping it was a native app.

LogicalApex is correct, i read the same exact article, no more in car store for at least older models.

As of to spotify as native. Try this (and if you knew about this, i guess time wasted reading haha) : my vehicle> idrive setting> mobile devices > choose ur phone > on top it says apple carplay, below it says bmw idrive features: telephone, additional phone, bluetooth audio, APPS. Click on apps, it will show checkmark. Then press media by the idrive knob, or Mode beside volume knob.. along FM, bluetooth, USB etc, you should see spotify on the list.

Spotify hands down wayyyyyyyyy better on carplay. The only reason i'd use idrive is the HUD nav.

I did not know that. I will check it out today. Thank you.

I tried it. This turns off Apple CarPlay?

Yes, to my knowledge cant have both on at the same time, either carplay, or idrive media apps.
