Dealer totals new M3

Some poor bastard had his brand new M3 totaled because some assclown at the Dealership decided to take it for a joy ride. Lots of good info in this thread if anything like this happens to any of us.

Jeesh! You must feel lucky to only have a banged up rim, some sill scratches and 15 more miles on the car.

I had read a story about a E60 M5 few years ago. Dealer is still trying to give some BS story to the car owner looks like. Needs to lawyer up no questions here.

That hurts just looking at it

I would be so pissed - probably time to remember “it’s just a car” but easier said than done

Yes it’s “just a car” but it’s “just my car” so nobody else has the right to destroy it.

Seems pretty straightforward to me.

Yeah, not picking on the harmless just a car comment, but that statement doesn't apply to any of us or we wouldn't be here exploring mods, ceramic coatings, oil debates, color choices, etc. We are a bunch of car geeks that park far away from other cars and drive defensively around potholes.

Sometimes I wish I had that carefree attitude that 80% of car owners have, but that's no fun. Cars are a hobby for us that we invest a lot of time, money and energy into. It's a gift and a curse, but it makes me happy.

I have a friend who was just diagnosed with fourth stage lung cancer. Yeah...much as I love cars...it is just a car.

Sorry to hear that. I lost a 45 year old friend a few months ago who left twin 7 year old boys motherless.

Mutually exclusive to my fascination with cars.

I’m sorry to hear of your losing a friend and of your friend’s diagnosis.

I’m attempting to say something that makes sense in my head - but expressing it coherently is another thing. So here goes: a sense of loss is a very personal thing that cannot be dismissed. There are varying degrees of it with changes in priority - which can make a one size fits all an exercise in frustration, being such individual emotional responses. Comparing experiences and levels of reaction (emotional responses) almost feel as a Freudian examination (ego, superego, id) of mental forces…
Compartmentalizing of the individual experiences in their entirety are not to be dismissed though. The guy who has had his vehicle issue with the knock-on effects of lack of utility, lack of trust, etc are a form of trauma for him that he won’t forget.
Losing someone to death is also a form of trauma that one won’t forget.
Both cases will come with their own kind of emotional response and response to the response, without diminishing the other…

Hopefully this brain dump makes some sense

On a lighter and more appropriate note (this is a car forum BTW), reading through this story has definitely pushed me to the point of pulling the trigger on that dash cam. I struggled for while with what the benefits are and what people use them for and this is a perfect example to have one. That is, just in case this dealer doesn't step up and make the owner of this M3 completely whole including this CF modifications. A lot of people jump to "lawyer up", let's see what the dealer does before retaining counsel. Ordering my Fitcam today.

It may be "just a car" but let's see if someone hacked into your bank account and stole $80,000 from you and your bank said too bad. I'd love to see how many people would say, "it's just money".
