lane assistant

My thanks to ADS-UK. I was highly critical of my 530e's lane assistant as it seemed to careen my car back and forth between edges of the lane.

ADS-UK suggested unchecking the intervention box on the lane warning feature in Idrive.

What a difference! It now stays pretty centered in the lane.

So...if you are having that issue, check and see if the box is checked and if it is, try unchecking it.

I have lane departure warning and lane change warning both with steering intervention, are you saying to turn steering intervention off in both of these?

Ohh... I will crrtainly test this as I have the same problem.
But I wonder the same thing as the previous post. Which one of the two steering interventions should I turn off?

It is amazing to me that BMW lets all the critics complain about the cars ping ponging without simply letting everyone know not to have that button checked if you are using lane change assistant.

Seems so obvious once you told me.

Thanks again.

Steve

PS I will still only use the lane assistant as a toy/assistant. I still find that the car often loses the markings and the concentration needed to identify that and take over steering requires more concentration than simply driving.

On the other hand, BMW's ACC is marvelous.

Preliminary test failed for me. Still ping ponging. This was with clear road markings and a car in front (that didn't ping pong).
Test was on standard road at lower speed (~80 kph/50 mph). Will try later on highway/interstate type road.

I did this on the way home yesterday on the highway. Seems better for me with the car making fine adjustments trying to stay centered rather than wondering in the lane and correcting off the lines.

I left the intervention on but set to be minimal. It doesn't bother me much and surprisingly, I find I kind of miss it when I am in my other cars. Never thought I would be there when I first tried these things. Same with the adaptive cruise--I almost forgot that my Corvette doesn't slow down when on cruise control and getting close to another car.--Bob

Everyone. There are two intervention buttons in IDrive. The one to uncheck is the lane departure warning one; I leave the other one (blind spot) checked.

Yepp. That's the one I tried.
I've now tried with it on and off multiple times on highways/interstates. On or iff makes no difference. Car is still acting "drunk".

when was your car built and has the software been updated and, if so, when?

I ask because mine was built in November 2017 and updated in December 2018 by the dealership. Unchecking the box worked for me so I wonder if it is a function of the basic software.
