I maybe have a slightly different take on this, but arrive at the same point as many others... I don't think the grill stripes bring you any value. If you aren't into BMWs, you likely don't make the M connection. If you are into BMWs, you already know, without seeing the grill stripes. I would imagine, there is a not insignificant number of people that are completely wrong and think it is a patriotic thing with slightly off color stripes.

I completely agree with the notion that if you like them, you shouldn't worry about what other people think of them.

Exciting times! I fitted a tow hook plate holder, immediately regretted it and put it in the trunk. Realized I only had 2 screws in the back plate so put 4 hex screws in. Changed the 3m tape on the Rdr mount. I think the front wondow tint isnt the best surface for it.

I went with a Sto N Sho front plate holder. Front much cleaner although I have four screw holes left in the bumper.

Just dump it down the drain next time

A lot of service done in the last couple of weeks:
  • Oil change (done at German auto specialty shop using Liquimoly)
  • Coolant service (both main and auxiliary cooling system done at BMW)
  • Brake fluid service (done at BMW)
  • Full rear brakes (pads and rotors done at BMW)

Then I took care of these over the weekend in my garage:
  • Spark plugs (NGK SILZKGR8B8S)
  • Engine air filter (BMW OEM)
  • Cabin air filter (Corteco)

Notes:
  • Brake pads were 6mm fronts and 3mm rears; BMW recommended rear service.
  • I replaced my spark plugs about 25k miles ago and they looked fine.
  • I also replaced the engine and cabin air filters about 25k miles ago.

While yes it may get you arrested today, here's some advice from a 1963 Popular Science magazine. Have to admit I may have done this once or twice while in college, changing oil in a dirt field across from the fraternity house....Bob

Got a ticket.

Okay I guess that’s more something I did IN the G30 than TO the G30…

49 in a 35.

I honestly thought it was a 40 mph street. All the parallel streets are 40.

So... your speedo showed 52? Since the speedos are 3mph slow (I even coded actual speed, or whatever it's called, and I still see 3 low), I always allow for that when setting my cruise control.

Come to think of it, I did see a 5 on my HUD but I don’t know when he tagged me. My Waze app and my speedometer are always in sync, so I’ve wondered if the soeedometer really is off.

Had a few places to go today so took the G31, on my way home travelling along a motorway I accidentally got involved in a little duel with an F10 M5 & was pleasantly surprised to find that the bugger couldn’t pull away from the old beige estate car, in fact I had to slightly lift on occasion so as not to get too close to it. Although when the speeds started to get ridiculously fast (an indicated 138) I decided that there was nothing more to prove & let it go.
Fortunately traffic was very light but all the same it was a bit silly of me. I was following the M5 at around 60mph with a two second gap when the car the M5 was following moved over into the middle lane & the guy booted it…well I was thinking that perhaps he would, so I already had the G31 in 3rd gear & Sport Plus & also floored it….just stayed with him from about sixty until my better judgment caught up with me & I let him go

Last night I picked up my new to me M550i from the dealer, got the rattle fixed, it was a belt tensioner, they put 2 new rear tires on it because one rear had a bubble in the sidewall and the other one was close to needing to be replaced. Found a crack in the windshield the dealer will replace that may be the problem with my Park Assist. All that under replaced at no cost to me. This morning, I replaced the mirror caps and fender vents with gloss black ones. Did the grill last week, I plan on doing the front fog light trim and the badges as well.

Looks great and congrats.

I like the cerium gray trim pieces. I feel like they set the M550 apart from the 540/530 M Sport. But I get gloss black is very popular and also looks good.

Yeah I know the Cerium Gray is M550 specific. On white it just looks out of place to me. White car, black accents and then this copper grill and mirror caps and trim. Also I thought the gloss black mirrors were on the M5, the 530/540 M Sport is white, at least on Alpine White its color matched to the body color. yes the grill and vents are gloss black. The cool thing is I saved all my old stuff and can always go back. These are literally snap on. My mirror caps were chipped so I thought I would go gloss black.

I think you’re correct on all that.

If I switched, I’d like the carbon fiber. Would look good on my Champaign Quartz paint. But so does the cerium.

Carbon Fiber...I'm torn on that. I love the look...but it's such a performance thing...well thats what it was meant for right? low weight, high strength. Now we get alot of plastic with carbon wrapping...so its not real carbon fiber...and its not doing anything but making it look more performance oriented...on the M550i, I am torn on whether it matches its purpose or not. Now on an M5...carbon fiber all the way. Ask me tomorrow and I will say the opposite...lol...Nice carbon fiber does look amazing!

de-badged the rear of the car.

hair dryer and dental floss to get the badges off, then a plastic razor blade and an adhesive wheel to remove the adhesive.

have to admit that putting a drill to the paint was a little nerve wracking but it didn’t leave a mark.

cleaned up with some quick detailer and then a quick wax.
