Nice to see this thread back on track. I was beginning to think it was time to start a sticks, stones and slingshot thread.

If it was not an owner with his gun, that walked into that school and shot and killed all those innocent children, what was it then?
A mentally unstable person with a weapon who was going to do harm to a person or group of people regardless. It's no different than the person/people who drive(s) their car(s) through parades, outdoor food markets, etc. with the sole intent on injuring or killing people. No guns? Use a sword. No guns? Use a knife. No guns? Use a improvised explosive device. No guns? Use a vehicle. No guns?…..get the point?

A wacko with a knife or sword can't stab or kill 1 person per second like an assault rifle and 30 round clip can. Also the knife or sword are less deadly since it is not piercing your body at 300+ m/s. A car wouldn't have made it into the class room in order to mow down nearly 2 dozen kids/teachers. You got me on the IED though. Quick damage to a wide area.

And if the mass killings aren't directly enabled by our easy access to guns and our 'birth right' to own them, then why is the US the only developed country in the world with the level of gun violence that equals or exceeds violent gun related deaths in most of the Middle East and Africa?

I don't mean to insult your intelligence, but you just haven't paid attention to mass stabbings. There have been mass stabbing attacks where anywhere between 8-33 people were stabbed to death. Of course, it doesn't fit the AR15 narrative, so it's overlooked. I can't take anybody seriously who calls a magazine a "clip."

Apart from an IED probably needing a degree of resourcing, intelligence and planning.

Definitely more difficult to build and handle. You're not just going to walk into a store, show ID and walk out 15 minutes later with an IED…

You guys are overthinking this. It doesn't take that much to build an explosive device. We see improvised devices out here in the field all of the time. You need a reality check. The internet has made procuring supplies and obtaining methods extremely easy.

I’m not - Why would you bother when you can walk in with an AR15?

Criminals have their reasons and preferred methods. Some like guns, some like arson……and some would rather inject people in clubs with HIV infected needles. People who want to harm, will harm.

Back to guns….

….What's everybody preferred brand for long range scopes? Mine are all Sig Sauer scopes and they use high quality glass from Japan. I've heard the glass in Swarovski scopes is really clear.

I went with Arken Optics on a friend’s recommendation for the 308 precision rifle
https://www.arkenopticsusa.com/onlin...ube-p227953426

I want to try the Vortex stuff next. I didn’t know Swarovski made scopes until very recently

I've heard great things about Vortex's higher end scopes. They definitely punch above their weight for the price point(s) they compete in.

PSA seems to have regular sales on their Strike Eagle models.

How do you like your Sig rifle scopes? I just know of their red dots

I went with this one Sightron SIII 6-24x50mm Rifle Scope on my bolt action .338 Lapua.

Not super high end, but it has worked quite well for me.

I really like them. They are well built and the glass/red dots/reticles are nice. I purchased them from SWFA.com back in 2016.

I want a .338 Lapua so bad. It's all that's missing from my personal armory. Any pics of yours? I've never tried the Sightron, so that may be something I look into. What scopes were on your duty rifles?

I just picked up a Vortex Razor Gen II-E for a Noveske rifle I also just picked up. I haven't had the opportunity to get to the range with it yet but playing around with it, it's a quality piece for the price (~$1400). The glass is crystal clear and distortion-free (to my eye at least) and the illumination is oh so crisp.

I need to get a throw lever on it though as the magnification ring, although smooth as butter, requires just a bit more torque.

Couple all that with Vortex's reputation for service and I'm a happy camper.

if by duty rifles, I just had a standard M4, with the standard issue scope. I was an officer by the time I retired from the USMC, and not in MARSOC, or other SF types, so I didn't get anything special.

Love my .338, but shooting is basically shooting 5 dollar bills...

It's a Savage Arms BA110 Stealth, chambered in .338 Lapua. I put a pic of it somewhere in this thread, a few years back.

Speaking of Glock's ,... I have MASSIVE (NOT) hands and it's difficult for me to reach the trigger on my G26 and Gen 4 Glocks aren't on the PRK roster. I've seen a few videos on how to reduce the backstrap, but I'm uncomfortable basically destroying the grip.

Anyone seen these videos and what are your thoughts. THANKS!

I haven't had a lot of experience with Glocks. Can you link us to a video?
