M550i Xdrive winter tires

Hi. I have 20" wheels currently. I'm looking to get set of 4 winter tires to put on the same rims. The problem is: there are no approved BMW tires in that size (245/35/20, 275/30/20) and no RF. I'm wondering if putting tires without BMW homologation may cause some issues to xdrive, as the diameter may differ slightly. I am wondering between the three:
Michelin PA4
Hankook Winter i*cept evo3
Bridgestone Blizzak LM005.

Anyone has the experience they would like to share?

Tires are tires. You don't need BMW approved or run flats. I can't wait to switch from run flats, the ride quality is terrible.

I know tires are tires, however the diameter difference may have implications on xdrive. That's what I was told. I don't even have run flats currently. So you say getting any from the list is okay for the car?

You won't have any issues with Xdrive as long as you're within limit of the diameter and having chosen those sizes for the 20" wheel, you're good to go. I'm awaiting delivery of the Michelins myself, did a lot of research and being in the tri state area we do get snow, but not tons of it, thus imo the Michelins were the best choice. Very good winter performance tire.

Ah, thanks. Btw, do you know if this car will fit 18 inch wheels?

Someone can correct me that has more knowledge, I read somewhere that most 18s won't clear the Blue msport calipers, and those that do it's by a fraction. If that's the case it's not something I would risk myself.

Just bought and had delivered those exact tire size to my dealer from Tirerack. Pirellis winter tires. My 540 x drive came with that stagger. Had the same Pirelli tires swap on my 435 x drive and loved them. Not cheap at $530 a tire but no worries on fitting and drive issues. Also the Pirelli performance tires will last twice as long. Lol

Your first mistake is attempting to swap out snow tires on the same rims. Your second mistake is trying to do this with a 20" staggered set-up which is not really achievable nor recommended for snow.

You should be looking for a winter set-up of wheels and tires 19" or under and saving your 20" wheels from the harsh winter and for summer.

Now all this said, if you are hell bent on keeping the 20"'s on, presumable 668M's, you are better off with meaty all season if your winters are manageable. With x-drive they will be fine. I did fine in the winter on my F10 x-drive with all seasons. Just be smart about it.

I've been using the PA4 staggered on 20" oem rims for the past 3 winters now. They are decent in snow but really won't perform as well as more snow focused winter tires like blizzak or x-ice.

I'm running a set of staggered Mercedes 19" wheels off of my old W222 S-class on my new-to-me '20 M550i with Michelin Pilot AS3+. Don't laugh! I already had the wheels and tires and only had to switch out the TPMS sensors and lug bolts to make it work. The tires are 1" taller than stock and are the same size as recent 7-series tires. My perfect 668Ms will be ready to come out and play in the Spring.

This is what I did when I bought my M550 last fall: I immediately scoured eBay and pieced together a second set of 668M’s. I just love the way these wheels look! Then, I ordered a staggered set of Michelin Alpins. In November, I had Discount Tire swap the wheels from summer to winter, store my summer tires and wheels, and then swapped them back in April. I live in Chicago, and travel a lot, so my car saw a lot of snow action last winter. Never had an issue.

Continental DWS06 come in the appropriate sizes and you'll be happy with them all year long rather than just for winter.
