also i was too scared to launch the M5 they gave me to test lol. i think you have to turn off ALL traction control to launch M cars. don't want to crash it on a 20 min test drive lol. i mean i brake boosted the M5 and it spun its rear tires will all traction control turned on. so i presume if i turned off TC and did a launch it would spin all the tires! all 285 section tires! am i selling myself the M5 lol, no i'm not. can't afford the maintenance if it throw it around ... why get it if i don't drive it like an M. |

M850 GC has just enough extra room in the back over the 5 series to make me not think of the 7 series' cavernous backseat. It's crazy how much more room there is for a car seat back there versus the G30.
Good luck finding one optioned out though. I am still trying to get mine bought. Had one sold out from under me in an unfortunate situation at a local dealer but confident I'll find it in time. If I drove a 7 or a S580 I'd feel like I aged 30yrs overnight honestly lol. |

Years ago I test drove the E9x M3 against my better judgment. After that I found every way I could to rationalize buying that car. I owned one for nearly 7 years, but the hard edge got old. I’d like one more M and the M5 base is the most civilized version but may still have too hard an edge for me. I’m not interested in any BEV or PHEV version of the G60 nor any SAV/SUV.

One day an M850 GC will be in the right place and right time for me to test out. I suspect it will be like the 750 experiment in that 1) it will be objectively awesome and 2) I’ll know within 10 minutes if it is subjectively awesome FOR ME. And if I like it, it will become the new obsession. Which is all the reason more for fate to keep that test drive away for a while. Another thing I like about the M850 is they’re still making them! Easier to be patient, knowing they will be around either new or lightly used for quite a while. I didn’t realize the backseat is any bigger than the G30. It kind of has bucket seats almost in the rear.

https://www.tulleybmwnashua.com/inve...v0c09pcm74090/ I would be happy to test drive it for you. I know I won't be tempted;-). This caught my eye yesterday when searching locally because I know you love them. I took a hard objective look at it. I just can't get over the ass design. It just looks like a cross between a Supra and a Camry. ///M cars don't depreciate at a rapid rate. I do think the M850/840 will follow suit with the 7 Series, but for different reasons. The 7 has generally had a sharp depreciation curve because they cost SO much to fix. The 8's just aren't moving and I suspect it is because of oversaturating the brand with too many cars at the same price point. Most people would go for the 5-series over the 8-series and no question, the ///M5 is one of the original three ///M cars and the market for each are the same people, us. The 8-series will be gone by the turn of the century to bring back the 6-series if replaced.

There is a Dravit M8 GC with Tartufo/White interior at my local dealer. I didn’t even ask about driving it. Didn’t want to make the guy tell me no. But he did say no one has looked at it yet. This small market is tough for that car. People here that spend $120k on a car are going to buy a top end 7, S Class, X7, Escalade, etc. I’m basing my comments about the 8 depreciating slower than the 7 based on comparing pricing for similarly used cars. A 2021 750 with 30k miles is a less expensive preowned car than a 2021 M850 with 30k miles. I think the biggest factor is probably that there are just less of them. Less demand for sure. But maybe the supply/demand curve is more favorable on them than the 7. I’d think repairs are expensive on either. I doubt that has a lot to do with the disparity.

The M5 test drive was brief since the car was sold just before I arrived. The CA had arranged to let me drive it around the block. It was a 15 test drive on mostly back roads with everything set to comfort and I couldn't get too aggressive with it. Still, it was very responsive as you'd expect. Steering was much better than my 540i. Suspension, though firm, was not jarring and took breaks in the pavement better than the 704 passive M Sport suspension. Transmission definitely shifts later and harder than mine, and the exhaust tone is much louder. Again, all things you expect. I might have to start considering a '22 or '23 as a replacement but the later cars may all be Comps. This one was a '22 with 23k miles on it.
I also drove a G60 530i non sport that was nice, like a Lexus, but not like a BMW should be. Got back in my G30 and enjoyed the ride home in Sport+

A few years ago, definitely not. But now I am at a stage in life where I would like to go a step up and own/enjoy what a Porsche offers instead of yet another BMW. But even that is at least 7-8 yrs away as that's how long I keep my cars generally (and intend to keep my M550i for at a minimum).

I get that. But for 2-3 years it could be pretty awesome. I only drive about 7-8k miles per year and about 35% is highway mileage.

I’ve come to terms with never being able to own a F90 while they’re relatively new and low mileage. I’ll never have the patience for a plan like what I’m about to say, but… Now I kind of want to be patient, get this M550 paid off, and order an M340 before they end production. I think I have time for that. Would be about the right time to retire the M550 from daily use and extend its life. I’d have the best of both worlds in G chassis, M lite world. Maybe two of the last great daily driving bimmers in this generation of vehicles. And could daily the M340 around town. But knowing me, I won’t do any of that and I’ll have an M850 GC in two years. I have no patience or attention span. Time will tell. But no G60 model turns me on. They’re too tall. And the i5 M60 didn’t give me any emotional feedback to drive. It’s almost like a gimmick. Would get old fast.

Yeah… but it still looks like an EV6 GT… okay, okay, that’s rude. That’s a hell of a deal.

I would not have guessed that. And I'm surprised every day by how tight things are with a carseat in the back of the G30. It's not a small car by any means...

It won’t matter. I won’t trade this car anytime soon and when I do, it will put me on a mission to find its perfect 2023 sequel. Probably in Alvite (same color) if I can find it. If the M550 wasn’t so damn hard to beat, I’d be scheming harder on the M340. But the M550 is just too perfect for me. Really. I love the M850 GC idea, as I’ve said countless times. But even that probably wouldn’t keep from regretting a trade. I think the only thing I could trade for and not regret it is a M5 or another M550. And mine has Bowers and DHP. I love and would miss both features. For someone that loves shopping cars, I’ve really put myself in a corner. I’ve got the best car (for me) that I can afford, with almost every option I’d order myself and a great color that seems somewhat rare on the M550. The only options I’d like that I don’t have are aesthetic - leather dash, alcantara headliner, and 668M wheels. I’ve even gotten to appreciate the black leather, which was originally seen as a compromise for me. I love driving different cars and seeing what’s cool about them. But since I got the M550, every time I drive something else and then get back in mine, it just drives home that I have the perfect car for me.
