My M550I - Black / Back

Finally got around to getting a car wash and ceramic coated and ready for pictures. Took delivery about a week and a half ago from Greg Polland and the process was semi-smooth although there wasn't much inventory left out there unless you wanted to wait several months for a 2020 build spot.

I ended up going with a 2019 assuming the 2020's would get a bigger motor but in return I was able to get a good deal on a 2019 car and could live with "only" 460hp and the fact that no matter what tech will always be changing. My outgoing 5 was Black on Black and I felt I was settling for another Black on Black, as that was all we could find with the options I wanted, but after these pictures I am glad I stuck with it!

So far I am absolutely in love with the car! It pulls like a freight train, handles fairly well (although have noticed some roll) and has the practicality to haul my family around yet look discreet enough to not be flashy at the office. The modern technology throughout the car is awesome coming from an 2005 530i with old school CD and Radio only.

I currently have 400 miles on it and have done some spirited driving on it within the city, but have yet to really do some extended driving on some of our beautiful Texas hill country roads. In the city the car is phenomenal with the driver assistance plus package to help out during traffic but really gets going once its in sport plus mode. I can't help my self but to drive around town in sports plus! The gas mileage is killing me though; I have filled up 2 times with 400m on the clock. Maybe I should go ahead and pull the fuse on the exhaust so at least I get the rumble and reduce time in sports plus.

One thing I have noticed is that the AC hardly blows in Auto - is this a known issue? Even if I crank it down to 60 and have it set to auto it barely goes to the 2nd setting. Once I put it on Max AC it blows really well and cools down fairly quickly.

Anyways enough of my ramblings here are 2 quick pics of the car. Thank you all for your help in selecting this car and look forward to being a part of this community!

Dunno why the link to photos is not working but here they are

Set the fan speed higher - I set it a couple of clicks and leave it.

Congrats!

Regarding the roll, are you sure it isn't the tires? These cars have no business coming with all season RFTs from factory... they're just sub par.

This AC is WORST. Bmw screwed up big time. My dads kia has a better AC than the Garbage they put on this $70k car.

Also regarding roll, do you have the dynamic handling package? With that, and in sport, there is no noticable roll on hard cornering

Not my car. Cold air on demand - the fan speed is NOT automatic, so needs to be set at a level hat works for you or boosted in extreme heat. If you are not getting good A/C, you have an issue with that car.

There's also the MAX button if you are looking to blast down from hot to normal.. If it's like the 340i, MAX is pretty loud. I can at times feel a little hot even though it's set to 70 in my 340i, that's why I opted for ventilated seats this time, I'm hopeful those keep me cool during the hot days.

The cooled seats are nice, but do not expect too much. Unless in shorts and a loose T shirt, won't really feel anything hitting you, but they do help.

NO DHP unfortunately. This was the 1 option that I really wanted but was impossible to find!

As far as the roll goes I am not sure if its just my perception as I get familiar with xdrive and a new suspension setup. My 2005 530i had a sport package with active steering and I am assuming the feel of that car is carrying over to this comparison. Hopefully my perception changes soon

Wait so the fan speed is not Auto, just the temperature? That seems really odd, surely can't be designed that way?

For now I have just been using the fan speed setting to get it cooled down and then click on auto. 1st world problem but a problem none the less.

Well, the fan is auto, sort of. Fan speed does automatically go up and down, but only within the parameters of the intensity level the driver initially sets. That is why many set it two or three clicks stronger and leave it.

max blast cool really quickly, but then even if you're on auto have to play around with fan speed.

My car is identical to the photos. I have nano ceramic tint, which I'm sure helps some. If you set the fan on the most aggressive setting in auto, and set the temp at 68-70, the AC blows as well as any car I have owned, and cools very nicely in San Antonio. And I can definitely feel the ventilated seats as I leave the golf course in the afternoon. Sometimes, if you lean forward, you can also hear them. No problems with the cooling in this black on black car at all. If you are having problems, something is wrong.

Looks awesome--congratulations!
My AC has been great so far, including after several hours parked in the sun and 90+ degree heat--I have my fan speed set to the second lowest setting, so it will initially give a lot of airflow, then slows down once the cabin is cool. Seems to cool down very quickly though it seems that many other G30 owners have had AC issues. I do like using the ConnectedDrive app to ventilate the cabin before I get in...

That is likely due to not fully understanding the way the climate control system operates, especially the fan speed.

Congrats! Great look with the black grille, too.

It took me some time to figure out the A/C controls, as well. I'm used to other cars where the "AUTO" button modulates the fan speed and air temp, and took a second to realize the fan speed bars when you have the BMW in auto-AC mode are basically "windows" of fan speeds you are allowing it to go in. Similar to ksoze, I set mine at the 2nd or 3rd setting and then am quite pleased with the fan speed ramping up or down as needed in that "window".

Also, remote ventilation has been great the past couple weeks with the heat coming through Atlanta. I forgot to do it one time after being in a store (usually I just activate it when I'm getting in the checkout line) and it was a noticeable difference when I got in the car.

So I just learned something with this discussion. the increased/decrease of fan speed is the maximum allowed fan speed during auto. so if you set it to 1 or 2 a fairly low setting then AUTO will struggle to cool the car down at that low maximum setting. So you should set the fan to the highest speed, make sure auto is on... then it allows AUTO to use the full range of fan speeds. worked great today!

Agree, we've had this issue (poor understanding of HVAC function) since the E60, when an 'intensity' feature was added in the iDrive menu, to give users choice. Auto function airflows could now be modified to user preference.

That preference has often been misinterpreted as a poor AC system. Simply due to using/setting a low intensity level.

Having the intensity feature brought forward to the display panel (in the F10) made it much easier to access and select.

yeah, mine was at 65 degrees today and it wasn't blowing that cold, had to turn up the fan. Never was this way with my previous 10 BMWs...they obviously changed something. But BMW also did away with that blue/red dial by the front vents, so that could be part of the issue.
