Got my first bubble dilemma
Got my first bubble on my 540i.
Here's the story, I picked up my CPO last year in August and drove until Mid October for about 3000 kms when I switched over to winter set. Having crossed the fingers for the winter to be long gone (we had snow last week in Toronto) switched back to all seasons last week and today I realized Ive got a bubble on my front driver side. Got a pot hole few days ago but nothing mark at the time. Unfortunately when I picked up my CPO, it came with a new set if Bridgestone Potenza. And I gotta say, I hate these tires. They're loud and drive quality is rubbish even compared to my Pirelli winters. Anyhow, long story short, here is my dilemma: Went to costco to just get pricing; $400 for a new Bridgestone or $1800 for a set of 4 Michelin 4S and throw the Bridgestone to the bin where it belongs? I'm afraid of spending the money for the Bridgestone and keep getting bubbles on every one of them. I even started looking in fb market place and found a 7 series rim and tire set with a bit more side wall with 700km on them. They are more expensive which idk I think I don't care and they come with Pzero Pirelli. Want to pick your brains out, what would you do based on experience? Maybe other brand you'd recommend or a in between of some sort. Just an FYI, like to stay with run flats. Last edited by cna90; 05-02-2022 at 10:23 AM.. |

Post the remaining Potenzas on your local marketplace (FB, Craig's/Kiji, OfferUp, etc) and go grab a set of Pilot Sport 4 ZPs. Once my Conti DWS are done I'm getting the PS4ZPs - car was made for run flats.

I would go for the Michelins, they last longer than any other tyre. You may get bubble with them as well, that depends on how hard you hit a pothole. Nothing is guaranteed here.

I have never had a bubble on the outside of a tire, but I have never had 20 inch rims with a super low tire profile. I did have a set of Continentals that had 9 bubbles inside the tire. It was leaking. You don't see the bubbles that are created inside a tire.

I have the Goodyear Eagle F1’s that came as original equipment tires on the M550’s. I have probably gone through six of these things because of sidewall bubbles I have the certificates from America’s tire and every time I get a bubble I paid 60 bucks and I get a brand new tire.
I’m tempted to swap over to Michelin‘s but I don’t really know if I’m gonna have less bubble issues I’m not sure if it’s just the tires or it’s how small the sidewalls are in the crappy roads that I have to drive on
