Remote Parking Illegal in the UK?

Does this mean remote parking in G30 is illegal at the moment? I know the focus of the article is enabling mobile phones but there's a mention of other devices in there.

Interesting , I assumed it was as it was enabled and presumably had gone through some sort of type approval process. Similarly lane change assist was enabled for July 2017 builds onwards in the U.K. so presuming that was the same ( or perhaps it wasn't enabled anywhere else globally before that - don't know the answer to that)

No. There is legislation coming out saying that using a phone or device to park a car via an app is not driving whilst using a phone - The Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) (Amendment) Regulations 2018

Ah so presumably the display key does not count as a phone so is presumably legal?

Either way sounds like they are updating laws to reflect the new technology out there and I guess there will be more to come at a faster pace as technology moves on.
Autonomous driving is the obvious candidate here

They state any device as well (not just mobile). So, presumably it's illegal at the moment. I guess sometimes you need the industry to do these things for legislation to catch up.

It might be more skirting the law than illegal.

Won’t be illegal as long as you comply with the legislation. Await some test cases on whether “driving with excess alcohol” included manoeuvres done remotely. Considering the risk that a vehicle poses this is going to be interesting.

If on a public road, isn't it still illegal to have the engine running without the driver at the wheel?

No but if your car got stolen your insurers may have issues with it.

Engine turns off if you try to open the doors while having remote parking on. I guess it's designed as a safety feature but possibly addresses other concerns.
