That is listed as included in the press release (both).

Hopefully RSU is coming to MY2020 since they seem largely the same.

Yes, I saw remote start after reading the full press release. Thanks!

Do you think we will be able to upgrade remote start on idrive 7 lite?

Interesting gear ratio changes in the 2021 M550i compared to the 2020 MY. That would put first gear on-par with the M850i's iteration of the 8-speed (although it would lengthen the stay in 2nd if that is now 3.25 instead of 3.52.) Could just be a misprint of course (especially since the 2021 documentation PDF above has 4th gear taller than 5th--so 2nd could have its numbers backwards, and first could just be wrong.)

But for comparison, on BMWUSA's website, the 2020 M550i 1-8 is:

5.00, 3.52, 2.2, 1.72, 1.32, 1.00, 0.82, 0.64 (Final drive 2.81)

2021 M550i according to the PDF:

5.50, 3.25, 2.20, 1.20, 1.32, 1.00, 0.82, 0.64 (Final drive 2.81)

For comparison, the 2020 M850i:

5.50, 3.52, 2.20, 1.72, 1.32, 1.00, 0.82, 0.64, (Final Drive 2.81)

I just received my new production number for what was going to be my MY 2020 M550i (until the Covid related production delay), and will now be my MY 2021 M550i.

The new MY options don't track exactly with the MY 2020 options, and it appears that BMW is updating the system to ensure that my car will have all the options I ordered.

Some of the new standard features are very welcome.

Ceramic controls, LED lights, the Android Auto compatibility, the larger center display, and the drive recorder, and best of all - remote engine start!

My dealer informs me that they lost more than 200 vehicle build allocations from the production halt and re-start, and that BMW's plan is to finish vehicles in production, then work all sold orders prior to producing cars for inventory. Nice to see BMW meeting my common sense expectations.

It is too early to say and we'll have to see.

The LCI has less "new stuff" and a lot of what they announced as "new" to the 5 series was already delivered with iDrive 7 "lite". I think this gives more weight to some discussions that iDrive 7 "lite" will see an update to make it "full" this summer alongside the Android Auto update. I am inclined to believe it will. But I have no crystal ball or insider information on that front. And it is possible Remote Start will be left out if it is sold as an upgrade in addition to the ConnectedDrive subscription requirement or it can be offered as a retrofit.

As there are still features missing from the LCI that people were expecting for iDrive 7 "full" such as Digital Key...

We'll see in the fall what, if anything, changes with regard to MY2020.

Whipped these up quick from the German and Canadian configurators to give a better comparison of pre and post LCI, plus the difference between Phytonic and Mediterranean. Reminds me of the war between Avus and LeMans all over again!

Front 3/4:

Rear 3/4:

Interiors (note, LCI's Aluminum Hexagon trim seems to be darker than pre-LCI):

Definitely get the impression that LCI tails might be a direct fit on pre-LCI, but probably not the headlights. Which personally would be my preference anyhow.

Has anyone contacted their dealership about when will it be available to order? Or when will it be in showrooms? I'm not from the US (so everything is coming late to us lol) and I have an amazing offer on the 2020 but i kinda like the facelift and would consider waiting if it's not a long time!

Orders should start happening soon. In some places probably already started and will vary based on the market.

SOP is 7/1 so no cars will be built before then.

Dealerships will start to get cars within a few months. In the US they started to show up about 2-3 months after SOP for MY2020.

In the US it took 60 days for my car to arrive from ordering to delivery and this was pre-COVID.

You'll likely get a better deal on MY2020 as they try to clear off excess stock with COVID collapsing sales. You'll likely see less deals on MY2021 as it is hard to know how quickly BMW production will return to "normal". They may also decide to limit production to clear off excess MY2020 stock from the pandemic as well.

So the choice seems more about how good the deal is and how much you prefer the LCI in relation to that. Only you can decide

Would have been nice to see the start/stop button on the centre console.

I spoke with my dealer this morning - he gave me the production number for my 2021 M550i that has a production week for the end of June today. I ordered the car back in February (as a 2020 model), and it was originally scheduled for production in April, then the pandemic hit.

According to my dealer, BMW will be finishing all cars currently on the line at shutdown, then produce 2021 MY cars for the orders from buyers they had in the pipeline prior to the production halt. Once those 'sold orders' are built, they will shift to building cars solely for inventory.

I'd definitely prowl the existing 2020 inventory for good deals and I would expect the June offers/discounts to be better than the ones currently offered for May.

Good luck.

Not happening. Too many other modules need to be changed on MY20 to support RSU.

Why was the 4cyl turbo 530i engine not upgraded to the one in the 330i. Makes no sense....

I think the opposite. I think the lights front and rear look fantastic.

Hi Guys,

I am new to this website( as a member) however always followed it through google and it help me with many issues i had with my G30.

I might be in the wrong section but due to being new here, i am not able to start a new thread.

But as you all know, the new G30 LCI is out and for me it looks much more aggressive and fresh then the outgoing model.

What i wanted to discuss and i am sure there will be some opinions on it is what about retrofit?

Do you think it will be possible to retrofit the new head/tail lights to the outgoing G30? i know that it will require new bumper for front, new kidney grill & possibly new bonnet?

Below is the list of what i think has to be changed in it:

1. Front Lights
2. Tail Lights
3. Bumper
4. Bonnet
5. Side fenders
6. Wiring harness front and back?
7. Software update for all lights & possibly radar if position is slightly changed

Please let me know what else do you think will change in it?

Also it will be great if one of you can provide a rough pricing for the above, also will it effect warranty?

Lastly, i am planning on getting BM3 on my car, will it effect coding of the lights above given that ECU will be tuned during BM3, i am new to this stuff so pardon my silly questions.

Thanks,
Shyg
