Rattle from passenger seat area (NOT seat belt)
I have a weird rattle (ticking type) from the passenger seat area. It is only audible when no one is sitting on the passenger seat, and it is much louder when the interior is cold. It is not the common problem when the seat belt buckle is rattling against the pillar. That is ruled out. I have inspected the seat from underneath and the surroundings but cannot find anything loose. Anyone with a similar rattle or a known fix?
Thanks. |

Adjust the seat back and see if the noise stops or changes. My G30 multi contour seat does rattle a little bit if seat back is left on a certain angle. I adjust it and the rattle stops. Regardless this seat rattles far less than my previous F10. Those were horrible and rattled in most positions.

My car has had a rattle in the general area of the passenger seat since new. The dealer had the car for 18 work days in the first six months I had the car and never fixed it. I finally gave up and put non runflats to at least get the car to ride a little better (it had 20s, now 19s). I’m not at liberty to divulge all, but BMW did help with the cast of that change. But the rattle still comes around on many choppy roads.
My F10 was like a bank vault. The G30 is solid in many respects, but I think their efforts to lower weight and cost of assembly had an adverse effect on general build quality. Mine was a pretty early build G30 so I’ll assume they worked the early bugs out.

Tilting the seat back doesn't seem to change or stop the sound. Though I only tried positions where someone is actually still able to sit in the seat. The sound stays away for a while when someone has left the passenger sit already and then comes back later.

My rattle that sounded like it was coming from the rear right seat turned out to be the storage tray on the back of the passenger seat. I drove around with my hand stuck back there and rattle was gone. Need to find long term solution. Maybe some felt tape.

I hear some rattles from the front passenger area here and there, and definitely something on both sides in the rear. It was mostly due to the smaller sunshade, by closing it it's definitely helped but still something back there i can't seem to pinpoint.

How high is your clamp on the seatbelt lol. I know you said it's not that, but that's the only plastic on plastic thing I can think that could rattle.

You stuffed a rolled towel between seat and wall?

Has anyone figured this out? Whenever I physically hold the passenger seat over bumps I don't get the rattle so it is internal between the upper and lower back separation and not the seat pocket.

check your exhaust - I was plagued with this for years in my 440 - I even had them remove the seat.
In the end - it was the exhaust!! |

I'm using aftermarket exhaust and I know 100% that it is the top half of the physical seat as it stops the second I grab it when it begins to rattle. |

I had the MPPSK installed - i thought it was the seat too - even thought "held the seat all is well" - which is why I had them remove the seat. They went nuts!! lol
go under the car and look for yourself for clearance. Should be more than 3/8 of a inch. |
