BMW will officially debut the ActiveE, BMW's first-ever electric road vehicle based on the 1-series, at the New York Auto Show tomorrow. [Details on the ActiveE Lease HERE]

I'm interested in the ActiveE, so here are some questions I have:
  • Will the ActiveE be available for lease in the German market, and if so, when?
  • I know the car is offered for lease only, but assuming it could be bought, how much would it cost?
  • What's the weight of the Active E?
  • What's the weight distribution of the Active E?
  • What's the average range of the Active E? Also, what would be the range driving 75mph on the German Autobahn?
  • Lastly, can I get one?

What is the lease mileage annual limit?
What are the end of lease options?
Will a reference be provided for charging port installation in homes?
Will a quick charge port be available on the ActiveE like the Nissan LEAF?

Is the back seat reduced to fit the battery or electronics?

Is the trunk space reduced to fit the battery or electronics?

I saw an iphone/ ipad app that appeared to track the battery level and other diagnostics of the electric car and I suppose transfer the data to the phone, is that correct? More info about the app please.

From the EV testers/ trial leases, what were their favorite features of the car?

What type of maintenance (warranteed or otherwise) does the EV require?

why hasn't somebody invented electric vehicles that produce their own electricity? or at least that use the air wooshing through/around the car to keep the batteries charged?

there would seem to be many different options...the air example I suggested above...then there's the fact that the wheels/axles/trannies spin, which would seemingly be able to produce some electricity that could be used then to power/charge something...

I would, I guess, think that by now someone would have figured out a way to use a small bit of gasoline to get the "system" started, but once going, it should seemingly be self powering to a large extent...

so that's my question...

also how long does it take to charge based on its different power supplies, standard 120VAC 60 Hz, etc.

Can you travel with a "battery backup" or capacitor boost to extend your range.

Good questions. I think many people forget that electic vehicles still require to be charged up and we can't forget that the electricity has to come from somewhere and therefore there still is the environmental impact to consider.

I like the idea of using the wheels/axles to recharge the batteries with an alternator. Wind is another interesting one. Maybe one day we'll see mini wind turbines behind the kidney grilles
