It would be an overstatement to describe myself as "pretty set on getting a new Supra," but my enthusiasm for the car has dropped off massively. I'm at least 9 months from placing an order on anything, so I will see what the market looks like at the time for the (new) cars I'm considering... Supra, M340i, and C8. Believe it or not a huge factor is the ability to haul golf clubs and general utility. The Supra is miles behind the C8 in this regard.

I can't imagine anybody but die hard Supra fans wouldn't rather have a C8. I mean wow, there's just no comparison to me anywhere. I guess you could get both, but with that money just buy one Z06 or ZR1 version.
While I generally agree, a C8 is going to be more expensive than a Supra. Pricing isn't released yet, but by the time I get a 2LT Vette with Z51, FE4, and other options I want, it's going to be $7-10k more expensive than a Supra equipped how I want.

True, but those Vettes always get heavy discounts after a year or so.

I can't help but think the faux vents on the Supra look all-the-more stupid in comparison to the Corvette.

I thought even die-hard Supra fans dislike the new generation Supra because it has a BMW soul.

For six grand more, it will be light years better than the Supra. I can't imagine anyone buying a Supra over the C8.

well you take it out and place it on the table somewhere at a party and the girl with the base model 32k FWD X1 has a better looking key than you

The power delivery and transmission will be a big deciding factor in vehicle selection between the 2. The ZF8 is fantastic and compared to the 10speed auto in the ZL1 I drove, the zf8 was much more engaging. Same goes for the 8speed auto Chevy uses in the SS, just wasn’t engaging. And the power delivery of the SS as a package didn't compare to the power delivery of the Z4. To me, the package of the B58 and the zf8 is difficult to beat. Although, a DCT is a step in the right direction and could very well be what the LT2 needed to change the power delivery.

The other key thing to remember is the B58 is showing extremely capable with a simple tune and minor bolt ons, pushing 500hp at the crank itself. $500 of a tune and $500 for a catless DP and you have the same hp and more tq than the c8. And before you say “I can throw a turbo/supercharger and tune on the c8 and have more,” remember it uses the new electric architecture with increased security. It’s going to be years before it’s crack for tuning. So adding any power adder is going to cost significantly more with control units you’ll need to accommodate those power adders.

Lastly, if the Supra is anything like the Z4 with spacing, it’ll definitely accommodate wider tires in the rear. 295 for sure, possibly 305 with the right offset and/or camber. Yes I know that wider tires don’t equate to larger contact patch and thus more grip, but changing that contact patch shape does help with other areas such as cornering and even acceleration.

I believe the only thing that would save the Supra from the C8 is a manual option since we know for sure that the C8 won't be getting one. Die hard manual fans who cant decide between the 2 cars would have no choice.

Why are you taking it out and putting it on a table at a party?

Are you seriously one of those guys that uses your car to attempt to pick up girls?

"He took out his car key at the party and I just knew he was the one for me... and that's the story of how I met your father."

They say timing is everything. I feel that while the Supra seems nice, it was hyped as the next blockbuster movie, but then Jaws (C8) got released right after and everyone forgot about it although it was entertaining and fun.

It's funny how the C8 has stolen Supra's thunder. Dealers are still trying to sell them with ADM but in a few months it'll be at invoice.

Even loaded at 70k... the vette is still a far better deal than $60k Supra in my opinion. I'd gladly pay the 150-200 dollar per month increase on a financing term for the vette. Mainly because the supra is a basic formula... its a FR BMW layout. The vette is giving you a mid engine v8 for less than 100k.

Id really urge anyone considering the supra to check out a used bmw M2 for $40k. At least then you can have a proper DCT like the vette and not that terrible ZF8 which doesn't give you immediate downshifts.

SportAuto just posted video of Supra lapping Hockenheim GP circuit in 1:58.8.

On par with Audi TTRS and Porsche Boxster T, both also ran a 1:58.8. Z4 M40i did a 1:59.5.

This has always been the case with domestics though. The same argument can be made with Camaro ZL1 1LE vs the M4 on paper. 200 more hp for the same price but the M4 still sells right? Maybe there is more to it than just 'bang for your buck' performance

Suppose it depends on which bang we're talking about here. And if said bang has all of its teeth.

Well I looked at the Camaro before I bought an M4, and it was a great car. I didn't fit in it too well however, and the M4 to me just looks 100x better. I sure wouldn't fault anybody buying that Camaro over an M4, but to me the M4 felt way better put together and an all around better car.

Now comparing the new C8 to the M4, forget it. I'd buy a C8 all day and never even consider the M4 even though I love it so much right now. My next car in 2-3 years will likely be the C8. I don't see how anybody else can touch what it's offering at that price point right now.
