Brake replacement
Hey guys,
I apologize if I missed this topic in the forums, but I want to replace my brake pads and rotors without using OEM parts on my 19 540i with M Sport (S2NH) brakes. I see zimmerman rotors are good, however, there seems to be so many variations and I don't know which to buy. Has anyone here replaced theirs? If so, any suggestions on which pads and rotors to use? |

In my opinion, the overall performance is definitely much better when compared to the OEM setup. Although, the upgrades of front/rear slotted rotors/EBC Redstuff pads were mainly for aesthetic and the brake dust reduction purposes especially I have aftermarket wheels.

I see that Power Stop now offered pads for the M Sport (Blue painted) calipers, but does not offer rotors. Front and rear pads about $150 on Amazon. I have their pads on my 2016 Corvette Z06 and they have performed as well as or better than OEM pads with much less dust, and after17,000 miles they have plenty of life left. While BMWs usually require new rotors with pads, did you mic your rotors to see if they really need replacement? Looking forward to hearing more about what aftermarket rotors are available and seem the best value for the M sport brakes. Anyone get a recent quote from a BMW dealer on the cost of replacing all four rotors and pads with OEM equipment? Curious.--Bob

Sorry you had a problem with the Power Stops. How were they damaged? Seems like it would be hard to do but if they were, they were. You surely can't go wrong with Brembos (they make my Corvette Z06 brakes, which I like a lot). Keep us posted. BTW I just got a dealer quote on front and rear brakes for my wife's 2104 328xi: Total parts (discs, pads, sensors) and labor of $1,491. With your dealer quote on one front rotor of $312, that would lead me to expect a cost for all four corners of a G30 with M Sport brakes to be around $2,200 or so. Maybe more. --Bob

I tried some Power Stop z23 replacements from Rock Auto. I had issues with them shifting around in the caliper since it wasn't a perfect fit. It would result in a loud clank first time stopping either in forward or reverse. I was getting some squeal too first time braking after a rain.
Ended up swapping to OEM after a few hundred miles. The OEM have been perfect. The GEOMET coated rotors are okay and save money. Def wouldn't want the bare ones since they rust. I prefer the OEM rotors though with the aluminum center. |
