In his defense, a 2007 BMW 3XX is worth the same as a 2007 Kia Rio. We drive what we like, cost of ownership is miles below a new anything (including a road bicycle, jeez have you seen those prices? ).

The title left me confused, but I think that Kia cars are popular because of their price. I never own a Kia car before, none of my family have it as well so I don't have an idea on how reliable is this brand.

Brutal but true. My wife pointed at one last weekend and asked why BMW had made a Civic. Pretty astute, I had to laugh.

For the price, you probably can't beat the quality, warranty, and reliability. They mostly use Hyundai engineering so that's a plus. The BIG negative for me was the actual dealership itself. I walked in to look at a Telluride for my parents and holy crap. The dealership was in major disrepair, looked disorganized, dirty, etc. They didn't even greet you. You have to go up to a salesman and ask. |

I actually owned a Kia Optima Hybrid(the newest bodystyle) for a commuter car taking my kids back and forth to school.
I gotta be honest that it's one of the very few cars I regretted selling. Dead reliable, pretty good styling(for a hybrid), obviously great MPG, extremely comfortable, and great price for a brand new car. I really should have just held onto the car and kept it. I traded it in for a F10 528 M-sport, and while the 528 was 'nicer' I regretted the move big time. So much so, I didnt even keep the 528 for 6 months. Kia is making some excellent dollar-value vehicles today. |

Their new styling is really nice but i dunno. I had an Accent 7 years ago and it was pretty shite and when our X3 went in for a recall we were given a Santa Fe and man, loaded but smelt like cheap chinese luggage, felt tinny, drove horribly .. just felt really cheap.

None of this actually addresses why you'd be embarrassed to drive a Kia. Most cars, including the current crop of basic 3-series vehicles are boring and uninspiring to drive. And yet, I suspect you'd still hold your head high behind the wheel of a horribly dull F30 328.

Right now, I'm driving around in my friend's Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid. As a daily, it's actually kind of nice, super efficient, and has a functional, high-content interior. Yes, it's slow, the trans is clunky at times and it's certainly going to blend in....but if you need a daily driver and want some of the latest technology, it's solid. And as a used car in a few years, for roughly half price, I think it would be a helluva deal.
Kia makes the Niro, and it's quite similar, and sits higher, for those that like that. |

I own a 2018 Santa Fe, and it it undeniably way more spacious on the inside than an X3. I happen to think the interior on it is decent as well.
The crate for my 85lbs Am Staff fits folded in the back of of the Santa Fe, but not in the bimmer, and rear leg and head room in the Hyundai is also bigger.

Forum member's brand new BMW M2C blowing a motor 550 miles into European Delivery:
https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1648678 And there is a whole another thread on spun crank hub of the S55 in M2Cs as well with a few forum members here needing a new motor because of it. https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1492290 BMW quality is not any better than Hyundai/Kia. And the warranty with BMW is shorter. Oh, and here is an M3 owner describing his situation and needing a motor rebuild at 7k miles. There is "superior" bmw quality for you.

Oh, my bad. I misread "tinny" in your post above. Sorry about that.

Not that easy, first the dealer don't want to accept that there is a problem.
Second, the factory said that they are pending of the situation and that the dealer is their representation, but had not answer if they are gonna accept that there is a failure about driving dynamics. I'm still hoping that they would honor the warranty and not other measures would be needed. Technically they are still telling me that all the cars behave the same, that they drive suboptional. Maybe it's true and the problem is uncommon but happens to everyone and people don't notice it, I suppose that would be worst. Today the car is 2 weeks at the workshop, plus one week a month ago before. They said that they are still fixing the voice assistance (2 weeks), and after inquiring about dynamics they tell me nothing. Long ago an aunt had to change a BMW sedan by the dealer because the motor get overheated, but I sincerely though that does time passed. Other weird thinks happens like gas tank backfire at starting in other model, that they never fixed it; or commons really conditioning repairs like Valeos A/C evaporator damage, event an E39 rust problem. Is hard to belive that it is only one car problem. Sadly no Kia would drive like a BMW, but that is not an excuse to be unreliable. Sorry for the catharsis, the theme is Kia brand, but I see the people with Kia happy and satisfy, and see my adverse situation, and I thing that this is a bad joke. There's a theme of quality being up there that just have not seen in my experience, that is all. I will also add that Korean cars tend to be equipped with crappy tyres from the factory. |
