E350 vs My 330i?

Well here's the deal, i've had my 330i for a couple months and i love it. My moms car just broke down so its time for something new. We're looking at a 07 E350 fully loaded, and I mean fully loaded. White on tan with panoramic sunroof. Its pretty sexy.

Now my mom says she likes the drive of my car better and i've driven the e350 and its nice, not as peppy or tight as my 330i at all but its pretty nice. much more luxurious and spacious.

My mom said she'll take my car and I can have the E350. But I really dont know. I mean i've already put some time into my 330 and babied it and modded it a little so i have a personal connection with it. But the E350 has just about everything my 330 has and more.

What should I do?

PLEASE, I know this is a bmw forum but I would appreciate those who have had experience with mercedes and bmw give me a honest flat out opinion, not the bmw fanboys that think your better than ferrari. thanks.

the e350 is a more solid all around car, I personally like it for the luxury and how mercedes just seems much more upperclass than a bmw. So basically in the end, the bmw would be the more fun young age good life car, whereas the mercedes would be something you settle into as you get older and going fast no longer appeals to you as much as an amazing driver interface and upperclass luxury

My wife works in Stuttgart for Mercedes. She would never purchase a Mercedes. Bottomline is that Mercedes is not building the same quality of car they were 10 years ago. Living in Germany I've seen a lot of European cars and talked with Vw, Audi, BMW and Mercedes owners. Most newer Mercedes owners are not that happy with the car or the service Mercedes is providing. My last 7 cars have all been BMW and there is a reason that car number 8 will be a BMW too! If you want something fun and your mother has not purchased the Mercedes have her get you a 335i coupe. You can add a lot to that car and have much more fun!

In my mind the E350 is a "grown-up" car, and the visual image would be akin to a young child wearing a business suit. I've read several reviews that say the E-class is a very safe and nice car, but also very boring. It's meant to get the family from point A to point B in safe luxury, no real thrills besides the AMG. Besides, you get a car for the way it drives, not quadra-zoned climate control.

I think you should tell your mom to look at a similar 5 Series, because its a BMW, and by nature they have to handle well.

Or just tell her to get a 335i

Haha i've told them to get an 09 545i instead cuz my dad used to have one, but with the gas mileage that gets he'd rather not. And the 335i is out of the question cuz my dad knows what i'll do with that car lol.

I already know that the E350 will not give me that performance the my 330i does, but at the same time, it compensates for looks, spaciousness, and luxury.

I just don't know if it's worth losing that BMW feel, knowing you can take that turn at 40 mph, knowing you can brake from a short distance, knowing you can overtake somebody's grandma on the freeway.

Any other opinions?

I agree with you. It is a great car. Just dont expect the dynamics of a BMW and you will be fine. The 07+ had that subtle facelift that makes it look even better. I say go for it!

There's no such thing as a 09 545i, 550i maybe is what you are talking about which is sexy with the m5 kit. Try a 535i.

I have an E and my friend has a 3. we driven each others cars before. we have both concluded that the w211 E-class was probably the last good mercedes car ever produced, all around from its interior to it exterior. one of my other friends has the w204 C-Class and he, who is a benz fan, agrees that the interior of his car can't match up to the E-class. The 3 series is a great car. It has more driving pleasure than the Benz. The E-class isn't much more roomier than the 3.
It depends on the kind of impression you want people to have about you
I believe that E isn't an old people car. its a perfect balance between sport and luxury

However, I must say that this really is a tough decision if i had to make it. but i suppose you could always drive both.

Ive seen loaded 335i white with saddle brown leather e90 sedan, fully loaded CPO 29k miles sport premium cold weather idrive comfort access park distance control, auto with paddles for 28k.

(And a couple in the same price range with dif color combos)
I rather get that.

The E350 has a smooth ass ride but it sucks everywhere else, I think going from a 330 you might have that wow a new car thing for a month or two but after that your gonna miss the BMW.

I'd pass. E class is nice and all, but too "old" in my opinion. Just keep your 330i and let your mom get what she wants. If she likes your car better, find a 328/330/335 for her.

About the gas mileage thing, thats all how you drive. Ive got a V8 Jeep at home and its rated at 17 mpg combined, and I get 20 (22 highway) because I know how to drive for economy. Give your dad some tips on how not to drive like every middle-aged person on the road (e.g. dont floor it away from the stop light, dont brake when going down hills, dont drive like a lunatic, coast to a stop instead of accelerating to a point and then breaking immediately, etc.) and he can easily get good mpg's with a 5 series. Its not what you drive, but how you drive.

If need be, refer him to the Top Gear episode with the Audi A8 econodrive or the economy 'race' to Blackpool for some information.

Wasn't 10 years ago right about the time the ML hit the market and started immediately flooding the service bays? Even 10 years ago, there were question marks there, no?

i thought that was the 5 series....

meh. E class doesnt have a personality. Yeah, you will feel like your driving on air, but i dont think thats what you want? if you want to feel the power, then get a 550 or a 335. honestly, im going to have to agree with the idea that the e-class portrays an older image, i dont think to many people will disagree with that when compared to a 5 series.

BMW ftw, no doubts. But then again, im biased. im an extremist.

more like a "mature image"
I guess you could consider older image being the S-class
I agree that the 5 series is another option to consider
Having the sports package on either makes a statement

And yes, you are fucking biased

E class looks dam good man..If it was me, i would disregaurd everything and do MOM a favor and get my self a new car. LOL

Also the w211 e class is one of my favorite Benz and i think as soon as tints go up in that car, the car isnt so "old people" car anymore.
