cropping is fine... as long as its cropping the edges to make a smaller frame. photochopping is way different.

WHAT!!!!!!! Ive never heard or experienced that.. ever! I shot with a 70-200 at 70mm and ad f/4 and got some sick ass bokeh. I cannot duplicate the same dof with my 17-40L

a bit over exposed but u get the idea

one of the main reasons why an 85mm or a 135mm is a great portrait lens. Bc of the bokeh it gives off isolating the subject from the background.

That's what RODI meant. You get more DOF with wide angle lenses which means you're able to see more things in the field of vision. Telephoto lenses will give you move bokeh (narrow or shallow DOF).

I don't usually crop or use PS so I'm having a hard time distinguishing between the 2 lingos. So below are 2 pictures (1st one is cropped and the 2nd one is the original), is that fine or is that considered p-chopped?

I think what they mean by chopping things out of a picture, they are reffering to things like this:

more depth of field. depth. deep. deeper. more. more in focus.

very different from spatial depth. where what you can't see, means depth. (architecturally speaking)

You've got the muted, subdued look covered. Divide and conquer baby!

Now I can't decide if I like this one better with the deeper DOF, or the other one where the scissors start to blur out a little.

Hmmmm.....
