2023 BMW 540 - 1 year in still have a smell in the trunk and cabin?
My trunk has a smell, which I don’t love. It smells like leather or crayons and in the heat it really comes out. I can’t pinpoint what the smell is. It’s like leather cardboard crayon. I’ve had it professionally detailed twice now and it persists.
The cabin has a similar smell, but much more like leather than crayons or cardboard. The smell in the cabin is espeixally strong after a day or two of not driving. The trunk smell is starting to concern me, but maybe I’ll feel better if others share their experience. There were no spills or anything of that nature. I never carry food back there and it’s not a smell of any of my belingings or of mold/mildew. Is this common? Any known remedy? |

That is strange. Maybe some kind of new adhesive they are using? I have a 2022 and just took apart half the trunk to install an amp. I didn’t notice anything unusual back there that could smell like that.

Definitely sounds like adhesive or maybe some kind of plastic material they’re using. The heat intensifying it is what has me thinking that.

have you asked anyone other then yourself to see if they smell what you are smelling? If so maybe ask them to describe it and see if it's the same sensation? Maybe the product that is causing the issue is something you are very sensitive to.
I would be curious to know what a professional detailer would recommend in order to mask the smell (nobody wants some cherry scented hybrid smell lol) . I also, I know this sounds crazy, heard if you ground coffee grinds into the carpets and materials in said areas and then vacuum after a few hours it gets rid of a lot of odors. I know of a few wholesalers who buy cars from us swear by it to get rid of odors and cigarette smells but I have personally not got in a car after they did said process
