Questioning dealer inspection

I took my 530e to get an oil change and brake fluid flush today. The tech did the usual multi point inspection and said that my car didn’t need anything else. I changed my read brake pads last week but only the rear, not the fronts. Tech stated my rear and front pads are 10. Does 10 means a grading scale they use?

My car has 64k miles. I’ve had it since 18k miles and never changed the front brake pads yet. So it got me wondering if the tech half a** the inspection? What else did he half a** on?

Pad thickness is measured in mm. They should tell you the pad thickness.

That said, were your pads worn on your rear?

Wondering how long the pads might last on the 530e. I am at 43K.

My rear pads were worn down. The sensor had to be replaced bc it was worn down also. Fronts still look ok but I’ve already bout a set of pads to replace them soon.

As LogicalApex mentioned pads are measured in mm. That said, since most consumers don't know how many mm are acceptable, a good dealer/tech will give a more consumer friendly response such as x% of pad life remaining ...

So the tech stating the pads are 10, does that mean he measured 10mm of pad life left? If so, then the tech obviously didn’t inspect the car properly.

That's too vague to answer. If we don't know what the tech meant...we should ask instead of remaining in the "fog" of mystery.

Call and ask the SA to get the interpretation from the tech. Did they mean 10mm of pads left...or just a common/generic rating of 1-10...and that 10 meant the pads were still in great condition?

  • If a woman is a "10"...is she a medium sized woman that wears a size 10 dress, is she 10 feet tall, or a good lookin' woman on a scale from 1-10?
  • If a burger is a "10"...is it a 10oz burger, or a great tasting burger on a scale of 1-10?

The tech did his job properly . He measured the brake pad thickness in milimeters and reported. It is the service advisors job to got over the multi point inspection with the customer upon his active delivery. You should have been told the brakes are like new still and have plenty of life in them .
