Drivetrain malfunction - 530E

Have anyone had a drivetrain malfunction?

Brought the car in and told that the code was miss fire on #1. They also told me that this is a know software problem and BMW is working on a fix.

They have uploaded the software in both the gas and electric motors and the symptoms have gone away. They have no estimate of when a permanent solution will be available.

I find that it's funny that a software bug can appear after 6 month and 12,000 miles. I not sure, but I think that it has been firing #1 Ok up until last week. I guess I could be wrong.

Picking up the car tomorrow.

Look at your service receipt. It may say if dealer opened a PUMA/TSARA case with BMWNA. Quite possibly this is a characteristic that has begun to appear after some miles. MY21 is the LCI and there were some electronics and other changes to the 530e.

Could be something BMW plans to fix in a software update. Could also be poor diagnosis and the issue may be elsewhere such as a bad coil pack, wiring harness issue, module, spark plug, etc... Hopefully it's not a compression issue with cylinder 1.

Good luck.

They said this is the second car that has had this. The other car also had the update to the DME and EME.

They did submit a TSARA case. They check fuel pressure, rail pressure, swapped coils and plugs 1-2 and 3-4. swapped injector 1-2 and 3-4. After each swap the misfire was still in 1.

It was escalated to NTSE - They updated the with manual programming of the DME and EME. Was informed a software update is in the works.

It drove home fine, but that was all electric.

There you have it. Seems they diagnosed reasonably well. Sit tight for the iStep update.
