I'll take that bet. Maybe in 50 years, but NFW in a year.

Change is inevitable (except from a vending machine), but not all change is good. This is not good. Bangle butt was not good and it hasn't aged well. This will not age well.

It's a surprisingly angular design. It's missing an overall elegance that a flagship sedan/saloon car should have. A bit fussy to my eyes.

The previous Merc S-Class had it (not the new one or EQS).

Yep, everyone always does after they are done bitching about pictures released 6 months to a year before they actually see one in person on the road or in the showroom.

Been there done that and ate crow and bought. I am not naïve enough to make any bold hater statements until I see it in person and then see it more and more in person. From the pictures and videos, the design has potential, even for the G60.

The spy shots of the 2024 5 series look WAY different than that.

I have a new 545e and consider it a bridge to the new i5. If the new i5 looks anything like the new i7 you can count me out as a customer. Those grills are going in the wrong direction IMO. They should be going left/right, not North and South.

Looks pretty flat, but it is very early and I need to see it in person before I can say one way or the other.

The bigger areas BMW needs to work on is in their technology. Mercedes took a huge step forward with their MBUX setup. Tesla is making them look foolish in many ways. Hopefully they are starting to focus on it enough that these new platforms can age well over the next decade.

The MyBMW app should be near real-time. The map updates should be seamless and extremely frequent. Monthly or faster. Integration with calendar and home automation should be simple to setup. Right now it doesn’t really deliver on this stuff.

Even the LCI RSU support is pretty weak compared to what needs to be delivered. But more importantly on that front BMW needs to be upfront about their support lifecycle so owners can know ahead of time how long they can expect updates to be delivered for. As it is clear BMW has moved on to iDrive 8 and SP21 cars.

As a friend says of his: I know it's ugly, but I can live with it because I can't see it from the driver's seat.

The new 7 is even worse. It's ugly coming and going.

Wowza is all I can say. I can't tell how to feel about this new 7...

Overall:
- headlights look like they're squinting, reminds me of those Genesis SUVs... However after watching that YouTube video, it reminds me of the RR Ghost (I think that's what it's called) a bit too, esp with the flat front end with large grille.
- that fake tail pipe thing is ridiculous
- that screen looks so big, like too big maybe
- I don't care for the rear license plate being in the bumper, I prefer the truck lid between the tails
- it however still looks sleek. Curious to see the new 5. I've always thought the 5 (except the e60) was conservatively designed compared to the 3/4s and 7s, which I liked...the sweet spot car imo.

I'm somewhat excited to see what this i5 has in store, although I'm a gas engine til I can't kinda guy lol.

Ha! I posted a picture of the genesis SUV. Totally reminds me of that.

Might be. The G30 never inherited the supersized grill. Thankfully.

When the G80 first came out there's a lot of controversy regarding the grill. However it actually grew on us. Especially when we dropped some BBSs on it! Hopefully the 5 and 7 series works.

THANK YOU. That is exactly my concern and feelings. East/west (side to side) looks aggressive; north/south (top to bottom) looks fat.

I love the way my BMW drives but I agree about the designs going in the wrong direction. Unfortunately, I see no sign that BMW senior management agrees with that conclusion.

So...this MAY be my last BMW. I have a refundable deposit down on a Lucid Air.

I think the looks are fine. The interior looks like more than a match for the s class, let alone the eqs. But the range and acceleration are disappointing given the price point. Yes, it’s supposed to be a luxo barge, but both the current m760 and alpina b7 are in the low 3’s 0-60. The Tesla and Lucid’s numbers are in another league.

Makes me glad I put down a deposit on a Lucid Air. Reversible but I don't see BMW changing its design philosophy and the range on the I7 is a joke.
The Lucid Air is intriguing and the design is beautiful but they are mostly unknowns when it comes to quality and long term reliability.

Do keep us posted when you get it.

BMW understands they have to thread very lightly with the next 5er. After all, the 5 Series is a crucial, bread and butter executive car that plays an important role in the BMW product portfolio. It sells in much higher volume than say the 7 or 8 Series.

The 5er buyer demographic tends to be more conservative and this is perhaps why oversized grilles and other questionable design trends at BMW have not yet made into the 5 Series range. I hope I am right when the 8th generation 2024 G60 5er is unveiled around this time next year.

The 5er competes with the E Class sedan and touring. Also Expect the unveiling of the next generation E-Class MB around the same time as the G60.

Also goes without saying that the new G70 7-Series was made and conceived for its main market audience: China.

I agree. That is one reason I reserved a "Pure". I figure that they won't get to the Pures until late 2023 or sometime in 2024. By then we should know if they have worked out their software issues and are reliable. If not, my deposit is refundable (and insignificant anyway). Maybe BMW will get some new designs.
