2018 M550i BMW Ultimate Care+ 2 ?

Hello everyone. I am curious what the BMW Ultimate Care+ 2 really is. I bought the car used last January with 18k miles and currently have 22k miles. According to BMWUSA I am still active on BMW Ultimate Care+ 2 (5 years / 75,000 miles) until 03-20-2023. What does this entail?

Ultimate Care+ is prepaid maintenance with coverage for specific wear items like wipers, brakes, and the like.

So you’re covered for any oil changes, plugs, brakes, etc until March 20, 2023 or you hit 75K miles. Whichever is first.

Free of charge.

The only thing you’ll need to pay for are extensions if you wanted to do that or stuff outside the scope of the plan (like state emissions inspections if you state has those or tire rotations and the like).

Dealer saying MP plan UC+ is from the original owner that bought this vehicle in 2018. MP ( Maintenance Plan) plan was not on your name so that is the reason we charged you for the maintenance. I thought this is automatically transferred to the next owner, no?

I forgot about that charge. Yes, there is a reinstatement charge to move the plan to a new owner, but I believe it is $100 or something like that and dealers have been known to overcharge for it.

Other members can be more specific since I haven’t done this myself yet.

I think maintenance only transfers over automatically to new owners in MY2022+

How much did they bill you for the reinstatement/transfer?

MY17 - 21 Ultimate Care is not transferable. MY22 it is transferable.

For a MY18 car the new owner would need (if they desire to) purchase ultimate care care again through their SA.

Yeah, but to not confuse the OP too much it is important to note the distinction.

Ultimate Care (standard free maintenance included at purchase) in non-transferrable before MY2022. But this can be reinstated for a small fee.

Ultimate Care+ is transferrable to new owners as it is attached to the VIN. I don't think the OP should have actually been charged here and my earlier memory was right that he shouldn't have anything out of pocket. The fee I was remembering was reinstating Ultimate Care not Ultimate Care+.

I suggest OP call BMW Customer Care to get it sorted out and then request a refund from the dealer for selling him something he didn't need to buy...

This is what is in my Ultimate Care+4 contract exactly for transferring the plan over to you (basically notifying BMW that you have the car is all).

OP says he has Ultimate Care +2. So, in his case that plan is transferable to him (I presume for a fee). I suspect his dealer didn't want to take the time to help him out. Shame on them. He should definitely go back and bring this to their attention. My suspicion is since the service was done prior to transfer, he may be out of luck for this particular invoice. Maybe a call to BMWNA might help work this out.

Here's details on all the plans. Standard Ultimate Care is non transferable on vehicles from MY17-21. The paid for plus upgrade is.

My UC+4 contract says no fee to transfer as the plan attaches to the VIN. A transfer is a quick note to BMWNA that he is the new owner. Pretty shitty of the dealer to not tell him to call BMWNA while he waits if they can’t do the update.

Hopefully he can get it sorted out.

Even better then. OP, go back to stealership and kick some booty.

Did you reach out to BMWNA at the number from my previous post #8?

That wording is a screenshot directly from my BMW Ultimate Care+4 contract which says it is tied to the VIN and not the owner. It explicitly says an ownership change does not interrupt the program coverage...

I think the dealer is telling you this so they don't have to eat the cost as they probably didn't do whatever they need to do for BMW to pay, but incorrectly billed you so they'll have to hold the bag and instead want you to hold it.

Called BMWUSA and they acknowledged something isn't right. Opened a case. Much appreciated all. Will report back with what happens.
