2018 M550i xdrive - help a girl out.
I apologize in advance for starting a new thread - as I’m not very well versed in the use of forums nor have the patience to dig. 🤣
Back in January I hit a deer on the way home from the dealership after my regular maintenance appointment - damage to the untrained eye after dark was minimal - 45 minutes later I was sitting on the side of the road with coolant spewing out of the driver’s side intake vent. All of that was repaired/replaced and shiny and new in no time with new auxiliary radiator, hoses, bumper and carbon fiber lip spoiler. Fast forward to last week. One morning about 30 mins into my drive to work the coolant low warning popped up. (Keep in mind the last time I saw that warning my car was tapped out on the temp gauge.) Temp was normal but I pulled over made a couple calls referred to Google. I decided that instead of attempting to mess with it myself I’d go to an auto shop about 10 miles down the road. When I started the car the alert didn’t pop up again so I went ahead and just went into my office (about 20 miles more) instead - no issues. Well, a couple days later I was leaving to go to work again one morning and it came on minutes after I started the car - this time I killed it and decided to actually check it. It was bone dry - well I live 2 hours from the dealer and about 20 miles from the nearest Automotive Supply - so I added distilled water. No issues since. Until yesterday….I’m attaching a photo. If anyone could just give me some insight on what to expect to hear from BMW, I’d appreciate it. (I had the dealer come pick it up.) I do have Platinum extended warranty coverage as well as Ultimate Care +4. I’m sick from worrying about if something like this will be covered. |

I'd have said coolant expansion tank leak (known issue), but that seems like a pretty large and fast leak. Curious to hear what the dealer says.

No apology required, this is what these forums are for.
Any competent mechanic should be able to determine the cause of the leak and fix it. My first guess is that it's remnants of the last repair, but after 8 months, that is probably unlikely. In that case, your warranty should cover it. Best of luck!

If the turbo coolant lines have not been replaced with the braided steel lines, this could be your issue. Very common, the original rubber lines fail for almost every M550 owner at some point. Probably totally unrelated to the deer accident.
