540i Upgraded Turbos?
Ive been running my 540i for the past year on a stage 2 tune and really been wanting to go on bigger turbo (pure850 in specific), just wanted to see any of your guy’s experience regarding the matter. My car currently has aIntake, downpipe, MHD stg2, XHP stg 3. Wanting to go pure850, DS2, and flex fuel analyzer. Would love what you peeps have to say thank you for taking the time out of your day to read this.

The money. The time. For what? You are using 25% of you car's capability 95% of the time. There is the track, but how many people track a modern 5 series? |

I think it is something you have to experience regularly, hence why I also mentioned the track. On the road, in the US, it is kinda silly. I drive country lanes here as fast as I could legally drive I-95, and the level of performance one experiences at speeds of 200 km/h and above is just not something most Americans will ever be able to do 99 percent of the time. And we aren't even talking about tuning at this point. |

I certainly dont putt around…i use my cars. I guess I’ve been breaking the law on the road for 39 years. Since COVID, there’s Been too much congestion on the roads because everyone is “working from home“. Everyone’s out all during the day running errands now.

I have no idea what you are talking about. I drove 260 km/h for about 7 kilometers today, and there were no flashing lights in my rear-view mirror. You can't use the performance like that in the States outside of a track. I don't even know why I am stating the obvious. I guess it is time to bow out. |

for me at least, its not going constant 60, 80 or 100 that makes it fun. It's how fast I can make it to 60 is the thrilling part, aka the torque. Hence I went with the M550i. Plus the instant power pretty much throughout available at all times. |

Yes ive done it to my 540i, pure800 with DS2 and MHD flexfuel, quicker than a stock m5 now, its a reasonably cheap upgrade.. i have it like this since approx August 2022, no major issues yet, if i kill the transmission ill upgrade to an 8HP75,

In my car ownership over more than 50 years, including about 50-60 vehicles, I have always tried to live up to a quote attributed to the late great racer Mickey Thompson: "Too much horsepower is almost enough." --Bob

Things get wildest above 180 km/h. If I ever move back home to the States, I'd probably just cave and get a turbo 4. I went back a few years ago and had forgotten how slow driving is. |

We get it, it’s nice having no speed limit. I guess in the rest of the world you no longer have an appreciation for torque and horsepower? The only thing you enjoy is top speed? The plaid can break 200 mph, it might be ideal if that’s all you notice from a performance car. I for one don’t care about high speed at all, I like getting to the speeds I’m going (often not the limit unless in traffic) with all of the sensations and fun that come with it.
Do you think driving a 130 hp car and a 600 hp car feels the same as long as you don’t go above 80 mph? |

The best part of driving (IMO) is the twisties, but if I post about the value of fewer options and a lighter engine, the usual 3-4 posters will tell me about why they ordered ventilated seats, a pano roof, and an entire system that automatically adjusts their shocks and sways in their sport(y?) sedan. To each their own. Why so emotional? Perhaps I have become too German after so many years here. |

Not emotional just saying your experience in Germany doesn’t invalidate our experiences here. Many of us have hit triple digits every day for years and years at this point, but that’s not what I want more power for in the first place. I find top speed trivial unless you are at the track. I’m sure I’d love the autobahn but that doesn’t make me give up on highways everywhere else, and we all still love cars so we want more power, it’s not that unusual of a concept.
Like I mentioned you can certainly have more fun in a more powerful car while still sticking to the same speeds. Otherwise we would all be driving the new Prius which goes fast enough to get you jailed, while giving you 60 mph. I’m sure I can get a new Prius going 100 mph down I-95, but don’t you think you’d have more fun doing 100 mph in your car? As for the twisties you’ll have people telling you that you’re insane for having a 300+ hp car that’s so heavy when all you need is a Miata because you can’t even go full throttle in that car which handles better than the g series. They’re not wrong, but you’re not wrong for liking what you like either. |
