No fold mirrors

So I have gone thru all the YouTube, manuals, etc and can not understand why my mirrors will not fold in when I lock the car with either the fingerprint or the key fib. When I go to menu settings for doors/locks, there is supposed to be a block to check for folding mirrors. I don't have that option.....ideas?

It has to be coded, which cannot be done in the settings menu. If you want to go that route search the coding forum.

You have a US car which doesn't have that feature

From what I understand, this car has to be "coded" for the mirrors to fold, and the dealer will do this at a very low cost. I'll see what they consider a low cost.

first of all - need to determine if your side mirrors are even motorized. Do you have the "fold/unfold" button on your driver's left side window controls ?

As others have said about the coding [$20 for the OBD wifi module + BimmerCode app - this would be the easiest way]
Module : https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

True but it can be coded. I did it to my 4. Using a buddy's Carly adapter very easy, also folds mirrors when you hold the comfort access button on door handle.

Most dealers don't do coding. It's not something BMW approves of, fearful of liability issues if features that are not supposed to be utilized in the US are enabled.

Anyone knows why BMW disabled the auto-folding mirrors in the US?

I can't see any liability or safety reasons, unlike fob-control windows up, which could possible pinch someone's hand or finger..

Of course it can be code, I was referencing the searching the menus part of the post

Bimmercode and a dongle. I coded '15 GC to fold/unfold. Works flawlessly. You have to be careful on what year it seems. I did the same thing on my '12 X3 and it works sometimes and doesn't others...and when it does, it'll drop the windows about 1" down on each side for some reason. That sucks when it rains overnight and you are unaware they lowered...lol

My Audi A7 US-spec has a setting to fold the mirrors with locking. So unless Audi is breaking the law, I don't think it is disallowed in the US.
And yes, it is simple to code with Bimmercode app.

I set my delay at 00 when locking so that only a short touch on the handle locks and folds the mirrors, but a brief tap will only lock the car.
I did not set the mirrors to unfold when unlocking, but to unfold at 10 mph, so they will stay folded until I leave the parking spot/garage.

Take it for what it is, but there was a rumour in some previous posting regarding wear and tear on the motors. However, unless the US gets different mirror motors, doesn't make sense as EU spec'ed models have the folding on by default.

Whenever there's a difference between Euro and US spec you can safely assume there's a bureaucrat behind it. Does the Euro version have the stupid disclaimer that shows up on the iDrive screen every time the car is started? You know, the very first thing that US owners code out?

Yep, it has to be coded. I used the iCarly BMW app.

I haven’t found a dealer that will do it. You’re on you own. Either find someone to do it or do it yourself. The dealers apparently don’t want that responsibility.

While the mirrors will fold in using the button on the arm rest, I see no reason why there isn't the "foldin when locking the car" feature available. I've read that it can and can not be coded in. Now my dealer tells me, no it can not be coded in. So, I will just hit the button on the arm rest when I get out of the car so they fold in, and hit it again when I get back in to fold them back out.

What he's actually saying is that he won't code it in. Post your question here:

The mirrors will automatically unfold once you start driving and hit (I believe) 20 or 25 mph too.
