G-series 6WB Virginization.

Hello All,

Been doing a lot of research on the 6WB retrofit for my G-series.
At this time i cannot find anyone that does the virginization for the 6WB from the G-series and I'm wondering if I'm missing anything.

Am I stuck buying a completely brand new cluster to avoid the tamper dot post coding? or if i buy a cluster with confirmed lower mileage than my car will that be fine (cluster adjusting mileage upward to match the car?

Thanks all.

I have been looking into this as well and when I inquired about using a used 6WB this is what I was told:

"If 6WB is used, it must have VIN and Mileage blanked. I cannot do it as EEPROM must be desoldered and either blanked, or replaced. Best to buy new one for sure."

Let me know if you find out anything different.

yeah that lines up with what i've been reading by and large. Although I did read that if the 6WB mileage is lower than your car's cluster, the new 6WB will adjust and take on the mileage from your car. i don't know how accurate that is, and I'm not sure I'm willing to experiment without some guidance.

Same.
I'm not sure their pricing is 100% reasonable. You should have seen the quote for surround view. I understand it won't be cheap but be realistic!

I thought I was the only one who had issues with their pricing.

don't go with bimmer tech, they are outrageous, you might as well go to the dealer

here is a company selling used virginized clusters,
https://bimmer.guru/product/bmw-digi...-5-series-g30/
cost + shipping for me was going to be ~$900

so I just went for a new one
https://www.ebay.com/itm/222376814261 for ~$1100 + $60 for trim

easy install, self coding with e-sys is a bit awkward but everything works perfect

Literally just got mine done!

I bought a virginized cluster off eBay. came overnight from Europe.
Installed it this morning and just had it remote coded by Mrgicm.

Not a hard swap at all.

Now, the surround view swap im thinking about will probably suck haha.

Do you mind me asking which seller you bought your cluster from? TIA!

Even though the description says "6WB" I don't think it's correct since it doesn't have the rings? I am curious though as I am also looking to purchase one of these.

Doing a bit of reading, I agree and don't think this is suitable for pre LCI G30s

Definitely not right. That's for the LCI ID7 cars. Not Pre-LCI.

Not that one.

this is the one you want. with the metal rings.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/22237681426...0AAOSwnw9aBY9N

Just be careful if you don't buy new to make sure its Virginized. That's important because you want the previous car info cleared before you install.

I already have 6WB but I’m going to retrofit the full digital blackout version.
My car has hud but the kombi I’m buying doesn’t.
On the back is a silver box that is identical to the blackout version. This is where hud plugs into. Does anyone know if I just swap the boxes, hud will function as before?

There are 2 versions to this kombi, this one with silver box is for evo which is why it’s got the blue plug that goes to the evo orange connector.

The id7 version is different on the back it has the black plug and a purple connector for hud. I don’t think it requires hsd cable to mgu

I think the only difference is the rings are missing on the full blackout version, I don’t think there’s any actual change to the kombi unit. So is it worth it?

It’s simple if you have the correct tools to virgin the eeprom so once I’ve done it I’ll put on here.
I’ve fitted a few kombi units in F20 F30 etc

Successful 6WB Retrofit

Hi Gang,

As an update, I've successfully retrofitted a used, virginized 6WB. I found one on eBay for ~$650 and pulled the trigger.

Some notes:

- You'll need a new cluster trim (part # 51459387222), however it is possible to remove the top 2 clips of the 6WA trim and cover with felt.
- Mrgicm was a total wizard and coded the new cluster for me, along with anti dazzle and default radar cruise to closest distance.

I'm so happy with the replacement - the car feels so much more modern and the new Eco Pro display is so cool!

You'll definitely need a version that has the plug for the HUD, else it won't work. I'm not sure this will be as big an upgrade as 6WA -> 6WB.

Hi, I have a question and hope you can help. I'm about to purchase the used cluster off the website you provided but I was wondering what the install process would look like? Is it as simple as just unscrewing the cluster, or will I have to remove the trim where the ambient light is under the idrive screen as well?

yes its that significant

trim around cluster as well as trim below the cluster on both sides (left of the steering wheel and the one under the idrive screen

the dense foam that dash is made from makes removing the trims a PITA, I broke three trim tools

Sounds good, thanks for the reply! I'll be receiving the new trim tomorrow so I hope it goes well
