I had the opportunity to work on the Galaxy Note 7 and the Galaxy S8 for the past few months.

Android interface was never smooth enough for me so I've always stuck to the iPhone. The Note7/S8 does feel a lot like the iPhone now in terms of "smoothness". The S8's screen is awesome to look at as well. I haven't had the chance to work on the Note 8 yet, but I'm thinking it will finally make me switching over from Apple to Samsung.

In the past, the main differences were a larger screen, a stylus (comes with a suite of apps optimized for it), and better hardware than the S variants. It's Samsung's flagship phone.

As it is right now, rumors suggest a late Q3, early Q4 release date.

For reference, Note5 was released 08/2015 and Note7 09/2016.

anyone else don't care bout the edge/curved screen?
it looks beautiful but i just don't use it's features
i sometimes touch the screen by accident when using with one hand, thanks to my fatty hands lol
wish they would come without the curved screen, am already starting to look into the LG G6

I have the edge display functions turned off on my S7 Edge and only use it as a night time display. It works really well in that regard. Can see the time and other things without having to lift my head while laying in bed.

If you want an Android smartphone then I'd stick with Samsung. LG even with the same advantages of Samsung. It's still not as good. LG G5 was riddled with software issues.

FALSE!!! My G5 is as fast and trouble free today as it was when I bought one of the first ones over a year ago.
My new G6 is badass! LG definitely makes a great and premium device to rival Samsung, which I also really like too.

Most of the software issues with the G5 had to do with the modular design as well as their "enhancements" to differentiate it from other Android smartphones. There's a reason why the G6 isn't modular. LG with their own products and as a supplier has more QC issues than Samsung (minus the exploding batteries.). If you don't believe go on LG forums and do a Google search. And it's nice to know that LG doesn't have a 100% failure rate. Plus look at sales of Samsung and LG. Samsung's market share is much bigger than LG, so they're not a rival aside from being Korean companies. Samsung has better specs with OLED screen, higher ppi, latest Snapdragon, more onboard memory, camera is a toss up depending on what you want plus Samsung has an iris scanner and it's lighter. Seems like the Galaxy is a better option.

After using a Note and the Xiaomi Mi Mix phone that are wider, I can never go back to a thinner phone again.
It sucks they release the Note after the S.

Getting rid of the "hotkeys" function, that up till the Note 4 they had, was one of the stupidest ideas ever, for Marketing and other people who work on their mobiles and repeat the same replies and questions to customers all day long, that was invaluable. That's what made me return my Galaxy S6 and not interested in the S7.
Now there are Apps that do that same thing so Hoping to snag a Note 8 when it hits the shelves.

Just got the call that mine is ready for pickup. Pre-ordered from SAMS Club as they had the best deal available.

Wow yes, If they don't do the ugly rounded edges of the screen like the design that ruined the S line, I would be so happy!
I totally feel the right and left side of the S7 and 6 screens ruined the phone makes it look and feel smaller and makes it hard to handle since its rounded and slippery

I'm looking to upgrade but I'll have to put it in my hands to see how it feels compared to the S8+. But I'm also going to wait to see what Apple comes out with and how that all works.

I currently have a Pixel XL I just upgraded to Android 8.0 Oreo and I don't know if I can go back to non-stock Android after changing from S7 edge to the Pixel. I'm going to wait to see what the new Pixel looks like October 5th is supposed to be the reveal and I think Apples reveal is mid/end September.

Yawn.

Clearly a conservative play by Samsung with the Note 8. Blatant copy with bokeh effect on iphones, 2 cameras, and copied iMessages. The S pen is still stupid and useless (I have one) and they went with a smaller battery.

Ugly design.

You can use them on any carrier. Mine is on AT&T I bought mine straight from Google. I have no problem using any features of the network. I plan to drop AT&T and switch to Googles Project Fi service because I'm almost always on WiFi. I stay pretty up to date on cell phone tech reading r/android on Reddit and I remember the CEO of T-Mobile tweeting out about them allowing full functionality of their network after the phone was released, but the exclusive Verizon carrier deal Google has is just that Verizon is the only carrier that can sell it/have data plans for the phone. Verizon just advertised it in a way that made a lot of people think it's "only on Verizon."

I kind of think it's not going to sell that well. It's priced close to $1000 and is tech wise barely better than a S8+ that can be had for $500-$700 depending on where you look with the deals going on right now.
