some company jacked my pics for their install guide

Radarmount.com a company that makes a product similar to MirrorTap and Blendmount straight up jacked my pics from my DIY/log here to use as their install reference sheet they include in what I assume is all their hardwiring kits.

Not really a big deal but I just want to vent on how petty they are. I would've appreciated just being contacted with a simple 'can we use this' or something like that. No big deal.

Anyways check this shit out.

So recently my Max360 fell down when the suction cup mount got too hot or something and completely fell off. It yanked the hardwiring kit and pulled the RJ11 connector off.

I ordered another one off Amazon. Got it yesterday and opened up the package to find an install reference sheet. On that sheet are MY pictures lol
Imagine that! What are the chances ?! Anyone ever have this happen to them?

Here's a pic of their install sheet (notice the second pic)

Here's one of the originals

Here's the actual install on the forum

That's super shady. Taking someone else's work and passing it off as their own is one of my hot buttons. Might want to contact them to see what the response is.

Send them a cease and desist to let them know you're serious. They'll have to pull all that shit and if they don't, sue them. Will probably put them out of business.

Holy Shit ..

Spend an afternoon, have them served with a small claims suit. I'm sure it won't go anywhere. At the very least, it'll take up more of their time then doing the install paperwork themselves.

Follow that up with a letter laughing at them.

Contact them and tell them you need to be paid for your work. Who knows how many copies of this instruction sheet they have circulated. It's a damn shame the amount of businesses with no integrity these days.......Phil

Hm, not a lawyer but I would say, from that moment you load up your pics to the net at a forum e.g., you're not automatically agree to share w/o asked about before. Thats what I call copyright.
A free kit and an excuse are the lowest things to expect.

Sent them two messages on FB and have yet to hear anything back.

I know! It's very petty. All they had to do is ask and swung me like a free cable (I've ordered 3 of them so far).

That's a bit excessive, no? I mean these pics are on a public site but I did go through the time to take them. Does a C&D have to be sent through an attorney and filed in court?

I may try to go through the BBB first. I've had some success recently with them and Expedia. Dunno though....I'll have to think about it. All the legal talk is cool and all but I'm not sure if it'll be worth the trouble.

This happened before with another company on this forum. You most definitely have a case- they likely don't have a test car and decided instead of renting one and creating their own intellectual propriety for proprietary use they stole yours. Absolutely pursue them.

Your famous now...as a sidenote I was having problems keeping my dashcam suction mount on during hot days. I cleaned the windshield and cup with some nail polish remover and it has not fallen off all summer.

lol I dont want to be famous

I should've tried that. All I've been doing cleaning the cup and air drying it. Then hitting the windshield with some basic soap and water.

I had a similar thing happen, I use to be on a Radar Detector board and shares all my knowledge and research of fighting speeding tickets in PA. Then Do it Yourself defense package ticket fighting website copy everything I wrote and put it into their defense package. On their website they showed some of my information I share even with its type so I knew where they got it. Not only did they just take it, they attempted to make money on it as well. I tried reaching out to them and go no response. After that the website where I posted the information may my information private so only member could see it.

You should not be surprise, we are talking about radar detectors and people doing illegal things, they would see no harm in stealing people's information.

So previously I msg'd them about getting a shout out or something. But thinking more back on it is that my IG is just general and not dedicated to my car and no one gives af about BP other than us bmw owners.

Here's what they sent me:

Quote:
Sure, give us your social media info and send some photos of your product installation and we'll give you a shout out on our social media. We're also working on a Mirror Mount bracket which may be compatible with newer BMW mirrors, such as your M4; I can put you on the prototype list for this product if you have an interest.

Our package design was done in-house by a student graphic designer at UNLV, during an internship. Our intention was to replace them with illustrations further down the road.
I havent msg'd them anymore as I'm still thinking.

I don't think it's harsh. They are required by law to at least give you credit for your work by providing their sources, otherwise it's plagiarism.

Should always watermark the shit outta your pics for DIYs here in my humble opinion. Link them to this very thread so they're aware we at least think they're assholes.

This kind of stuff happens to me all the time. I've decided to take the attitude that I'm flattered anyone would take my photos and deem the worthy of use. I'd probably reach out and introduce myself. My guess is the relationship you stand the chance to develop from someone using what you've created will outweigh the use of your content.

Have a link to this info? As a fellow PA resident, it might come in handy.
