Euro rear lights for amber turn signals

I'm looking to buy the following parts to swap out my rear lights for the Euro spec ones, so I can have amber turn signals.
  • 63217376463 - Rear light in the side panel, left
  • 63217376464 - Rear light in the side panel, right
  • 63217376473 - Rear light in trunk lid, left
  • 63217376474 - Rear light in trunk lid, right
Here is the assembly and parts on RealOEM.

Has anyone done this and found a reputable vendor or dealership? If not, what about a vendor specifically for Euro spec parts?

The only one I can find so far is Euroactive on eBay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-G30-G38...-/202146996139

Thanks in advance!

says that coding may be required, any idea if it is?

I don't think it is required, because the exact same light elements flash for both the NA (US spec) models as well as the Amber models.

Maybe I'll be the guinea pig?

I would be interested in learning more about this. Can the parts be bought through a BMW dealer? You can often get a decent discount from a friendly dealer. While I understand some folks like their red tail lights I personally do like the amber turn signals. I like the appearance but I also think it is a safety issue. More than once over the years I have thought a car was turning only to discover that it just had one brake light out and was pumping the brakes. With amber there is no confusion. Amber for turn and warning signals; red for brakes and running lights. Had a 2001 Audi A6 which had red taillights. In 2002 they switched to amber turn signals, so I just bought a set of 2002 taillights and swapped them out since the bodies were the same. Keep us posted on your progress.--Bob

I agree with your points. So far no dice from dealerships as this is a Euro-spec part which is not listed in the US catalog. I think it will have to be an import. As soon as I find a reputable source, I will post back here.

Just ordered a set from eBay. The seller is: oe245

I had to order each of the 4 parts separately but they gave a shipping discount when I inquired. $1,170 shipped. Not worth it to some, but it's a must for me. I'll update once I receive the parts.

I also checked out schmiedmann.com as recommended by someone on the X3 forums, but they didn't have the items in stock, but do carry them.

No coding is required and a US dealer will not / can not order Euro parts.

I have been very lucky with UK and German Ebay in the past for Euro parts.

I also do travel to that side of the pond quite a bit and always pick up parts when I am there.

I already ordered a set but I wonder if there is enough interest that we could set up a group buy from a Euro dealer with forum members?

Lights are here. Took a little less than a month to arrive. Looks to be OEM never used. Now just waiting for the car to arrive...

Now that the delivery day is nearing, I need to figure out how to install these bad boys. From what I gather from the F10 as well as the G30 technical documents, I'll need to remove the trunk liner. Has anyone done this on here? Any special tools for that?

That's great they're plug and play. I was afraid you'd have a coding nightmare.

Now you just need to find a aftermarket for you US parts to recoup some of that $$. I like them. From pics they look red on outside without lights flashing.

Thanks guys!

Haha I'm not sure of the used market for us spec lights but if it exists that would be fantastic!

G30 pre-lci might be the last one without a coding nightmare. Just saw the new Z4 and both the brake lights and turn signals come on for both braking and turning.

Yes, you are correct.

Well it's a world standard and requirement except in the US and Canada. Being someone that grew up in the UK, not being able to distinguish brake and turn signal at a quick glance seems kind of odd. So this is something I always make sure I do.

The other thing is that these lights intentionally get changed to red for the US/Canada market for no other reason than aesthetics.
