This was the infotainment setup in a MY2020 Lexus at the Philly Auto Show last weekend. That's quite a lot worse than iDrive and I hope it supports CarPlay. At least BMW isn't this bad.

I came into a G30 with iDrive7 ‘lite’ and found it far more ‘user friendly’ than my 18 month old Merc E350e. Despite the E having a huge screen it was non touch and difficult to navigate all the menus. The Merc did have alternative driver displays which did allow different set ups but I find the iDrive displays to be fine - probably because this is my first BMW. I did have a loan 530e with iDrive 6 and the thing I miss in iDrive 7 is a lack of a clock in the drivers display. I know the time is given in digital format but I find I have to really look for it whereas in the iDrive 6 you had analogue clock.
The voice commands are far more reliable in the BMW compared to the Merc but Mercedes Me is a million times better than Connected Drive

Just to be clear, that is a GX460. My wife drives one and LOVES the vehicle. It is an ancient platform but Lexus can't kill it because so many people buy them because they are indestructible in many ways. I see them everywhere. Look up the J.D. Powers quality rating and it gets nearly perfect scores in all systems they rate on a vehicle.

My wife had a GS350 with the newer "mouse" controller. If the GX460 had the mouse I would not have bought it.

I've had my 540 for going on three years and I still don't always know whether to go into "vehicle settings" or "Idrive settings" to change things. Some cars are better than others, but none of them is perfect. My favorites were my two A7 Audi's.

Not all have an analog clock. Mine does not.

I agree.

Overall BMW is way better than other brands infotainment systems. The bad news is other brands set the bar too low. It's a relatively pathetic group of offerings, so not too difficult for BMW to win. I'm thrilled they're at the top of the food chain, and hope they don't lose sight of the ease of use and intuitiveness of iDrive.

My iDrive 6 has the option for digital or analog clock.

Idrive settings
Displays
Instrument panel

Scroll to bottom and you should see option for digital or analog clock

I was in my friend's Tesla the other day. The ergonomics were easy and simple which -- admittedly -- may be due to more more screen real estate!

That is both discouraging and disappointing!

Ha. I've used the Lexus mouse based system and couldn't wait for the torture to end.

And I find the Audi MMI to be really nice in some ways and unbelievably frustrating in others. Just trying to find, change priority, delete a Bluetooth connected device can drive you to drink. And the new dual LCD system is not good IMO. Lower LCD is too low and you have to take your eyes off the road to locate buttons.

Try using it as a driver while also trying to watch the road. Thankfully Autopilot is standard now.

Unless an update has changed it, mine does not have the option. I tried shortly after I got the car. I'll try to remember to look for it again in the next couple of days.

I seem to recall that the option to change it was missing some earlier cars, no doubt a bug.

This looks essentially the same as my wife's 2009 IS250.

2009. As in 11 years ago.

I looked for it this morning. I definitely do not have an analog clock option.

Do you have the full digital dash cluster?
