Auto-hold failure

Hi everybody,
This is my first participation. I have 2020 520i which is a lovely car and I am so much happy with it. Yesterday I got the auto-hold function suddenly broken and stopped from coming as a green sign on the dashboard. Today it has fixed on its own. Do you have any explanation about why that happened?

Both the led light in the button and the one on the cluster didn't work despite me trying to press many times. Today it did work immediately when I pressed the button.

Don't know possible faulty switch perhaps. It's under warranty so once we're out of the other side , get them to have a look.

If shutting down and restarting car fixed the issue, it's quite possible issue is software related. Maybe an iStep update is required. Take it in and let dealer figure it out. Maybe a fault code is stored.

Was it early in the drive and had the car been sitting for a long time?

On my MB the Hold function would be unavailable if the battery charge was too low. Not sure if BMW has a similar check, but I assume so.

Its possible it won't work if your seatbelt is not on.. try it with both seatbelt on and off.. that's possibly why it didn't work for you that time.

Are you on the latest software?

I haven't had any issues on my MY2020 530e with the camera from the factory or after getting an update. Perhaps you need one though.

What happened when your camera stopped working? It just shutoff or something else? Was it just the camera or all of iDrive? Do you have Surround View or just Reverse Camera + PDC?

I have just the reverse camera. When you put the gear shift on the reverse the screen turns black and you can see only the PDC. It could be an update that I need but I can't see any messages to tell me anything like that. Do I need to contact the retailer for the update? Theses recurring silly problems started to make me upset about the car, to be honest. Is it something common about BMW cars?

The camera not working seems to be an issue some of us here on this forum have seen. ( I have had it occur 3 times for me personally)

Haven't kept up to date on this so not sure if there is a proven fix and whether that is hardware or software. Have a scout through these threads and see . As I've not had any reoccurrences myself I've not taken any in-depth interest.

If it's more than a 1 off then probably worth mentioning to your dealer whilst it's under warranty so it gets fixed if there is a fix or at least flagged so you have some come back if it reoccurs , it's on record then.

In my case it fixed itself the next time the car was restarted

While this doesn't address your Auto Hold issue, there is a recall related to the rear camera not working and a software update is done to correct it. It applies to certain 2018-2020s models, including the 5 series. Recall Campaign Number 19V-684: Rearview Camera. I had mine done and it is fine. I think you can find info on this at www.bmwusa.com/recall. --Bob

It fixed itself as yours but yes I will keep an eye on it and flag it up with the dealer if happens again.

Is this a worldwide recall campaign? I live in the UK so I am not sure if we will have the chance to get this update after the lockdown is over. But thanks for letting me know.

Good luck and please note that my name is not part of the url. I corrected that in my post but too late for your comment.--Bob
