M550i Struts and Shocks
Hello,
My wife has a 2018 M550i we purchased new in 2018. The car has 77K miles and has been problem free. I recently noticed an oil leak on the garage floor when she was out. She took the car to the dealership and leak is reportedly coming from the front driver's side strut. Does anyone know the mileage at which the struts or shocks need to be replaced? The dealership is going to replace the strut, but I am wondering how long before the others need replacement. Thanks in advance. |

It really depends on your driving style and the roads you drive on. On my E90, I had the rear shocks replaced at 60k miles.

Firstly, lemme say you should replace both fronts, not just one.
To your question, it depends. I have a 2012 e92 with <20k miles on it that rode like crap. So I went with new struts/shocks front and rear. Went with OEM-type Bilsteins, and now it rides very well. My e46 got to 200k miles before the rear shocks seized. The e60 got to 90k miles before the rear end got rough. My dad's e90 has 75k miles on it with some nasty rear shocks. They're getting replaced before daughter inherits this car next month. |

Apologies, I know very little about adaptive suspension. I passed up that option on our G30 last year. Yes, it was more expensive, but I was happy with the standard suspension so stuck with it.
