If you've got the Adaptive Drive, it's always on. Car will make the necessary adjustments depending on conditions.

Confusion usually comes in with the driving mode Adaptive button where that's dependent on driving style and road conditions ahead.

Yes AD it is always on. It is responding to multiple sensor inputs. The roll bars decouple on the straight to improve comfort, reduce single wheel bumps, 'rock-roll' and road copy. Stiffen up as and when necessary. The harder you corner the more the resistance to roll.

One of the ASR's abilities is to change the amount of understeer at different cornering loads. Drive moderately and the handling balance is neutral, as you press on harder ARS is tuned to add a small amount of understeer.

I find ARS (within Adaptive Drive) is one of the best features ever, in suspension tuning. Less compromises than fixed roll bars and that ability to continuously tune the handling balance, on demand, "on the fly" is an excellent feature.

I own my 4th BMW diesel. 2014 328D (sold), 2015 535D (sold), 2017 X5 35D X drive, and a 2018 540D M sport. The 540D has started misfiring when cool to cold in the first couple of gears at least at I drive off after a couple minute warm up. She has only 4,400 miles on her. I use Exxon Mobil diesel efficient exclusively. Only top tier in all my cars. None had this problem. The 2017 X5 has about 12,000 now. Never misses a lick. Its been a trouble free car as has the 540D up till just now. Its by far the nicest well equipped car if owned but with an MSRP of $85,000 you'd sure hope so. Got a fairly steep discount of about 12%. Still a bunch of cash but no regrets. Anyone have a clue what's up with her. I'm taking her in when I get a chance and it would be great to be somewhat informed before I do. Also having the map updated to the 19/2. Did it on the X5 and wow! BTW they tried to charge me $300 till I informed them it is entitled to 3 or 4 updates annually for the first 3 years of ownership. Thank you in advance for any help on the misfire.

With this low milage, you best consider a pre-owned F11. My second car is a e39 530i touring and is only used for the daily trip to the train station and back. I'am considering a G30 540i but actually, it's totally idiotic. Suggestion: reduce the cash drain and the coupled risk and buy a mint fresh F11 535d for half the money. Don't forget to give it some legs every month to burn the carbon in the filters adn clean the EGR valve.
