I'm also hoping for more 19 inch wheel options on the 550. Feel like the 3 series has a ton. I love the 20's but for ride quality and NY road hazards not ideal. |

And yeah, I'll probably get the M5 with 19"s as well (assuming I get an M5 and don't just go for the M550) |

As far as the motor goes, it doesn’t make sense to change the motor before the LCI which is for the 2021 model, but this guys seems to be right so who knows. If the new motor is not out for 2020 then that year model will be a bit underwhelming since the 2021 will get the LCI design, idrive 7 and the new motor. |

of late the 5er usually gets most of the upgrades that the 7 series gets a year or 2 later. I would assume the 2020 M550i would be getting the i7, 530 hp V8 and other goodies. personally I would like to see Marino leather as an option rather than an individual spec

Bmw is smart and will try to entice potential buyers to move forward with the order of 2020 model by offering the new V8 motor with 530hp. Since they have those engines in production already, it's gonna be an easy switch/upgrade. That would be enough of a reason for most to buy, even knowing about the 2021 LCI.
I'm also guessing that M5 might be rated closer to 650hp for 2020. |

I would be happy with the new motor even if it’s without the other new updates
I feel like if it was the other way around and I bought the LCI and the following year a 456/480 motor went to over 500 hp and 553lbs ,I would feel like I bought too soon.I think it’s because this is more of a performance choice in the 5 series non M division vehicles and the bump in power is pretty good.
Does anyone know if the 540 MY2020 will get the M340’s 382hp motor? I have heard rumors but not sure if two 5 series models will get m performance engines especially in the same year. I just thought maybe because we have a non M performance MY 2020 750 with the 523hp motor from the M850 and we have a M760. |

m550i has 540 hp. Christ what a time to be alive. And you can skip the rediculous semi exotic engine bills of the M.
How can M5 even compete? I joke, but Half way. The M235i was so good I'd argue if you don't track it's THE 2 series to own. If the M550i has proper adaptive suspension that can get you to track suitable levels it's just going to be the best 5 series. Who knows, maybe BMW is throwing the old bmw faithful a bone with this as the M cars have been so priced out with crazy options and Trim levels to siphon money out of Arabs and Asian exchange students. BMW has my attention again through |

The 2020 M550xi will have the 8 Series motor.
It won't get the upgraded goodies from the new 7 Series until the LCI next year. I've got this confirmed. |

From what I've read, the start of production for the LCI 5 series is in July 2020 for the 2021 Model Year.
As with the old 340i becoming new M340i, the current 550i will become the M550i...much like the X3 35i became the X3 M40i, next year's (2021 MY) X5 50i will become the x5 M50i. All of the "high powered" standard series cars are being converted to M Performance models... I have no reason not to believe the 5 series will receive the enhanced 8 cylinder engine for MY 2020, however I find it to be highly unlikely given the upcoming LCI 2021 conversion to an M550i "M Performance" model... |

Knowing BMW's past however, nothing would surprise me, even if they did introduce the new engine for MY 2020 and not wait for the LCI. Never was this more true for me then when the 2008 M3 was introduced and then received the LCI treatment one model year later....and then, they did it again for the 2015-2016 M3!!! Very similar to the 2006 e90 330i only existing for one year, then being replaced by the 335i (new engine). You would just think you'd hear more buzz about the updated V8 going in for MY 2020???? Maybe it's just not that big of a deal in the big picture, given everything else going on with their product line right now... |

SA advised today only 530 has build slots in June. Sounds like an engine change is coming.

Why engine update is plausible:
BMW currently can’t sell m550i in the EU because the m550i didn’t pass the new WLTP environment regulations. It would make sense for them to switch the engine even before the official LCI so they can start selling the m550i in Europe again. I can’t wait, I’ve been wanting to upgrade from my 520d for a while now |
