Haha. Exactly what I thought too. When do you ever see your own car with lights on?

But you do admire it on other cars. As humans you would like to have what you admire

I can't speak for zigmund. But for me, nah.
I have the adaptive icon lights, but I care much more about how efficient they are at their job than how they look.

I guess that's true as a general vice in humans but if we didn't control this we'd be up being mindless consumers - slaves to our corporate masters - just buying things coz we're envious of the next guy...

In any case, I'm blessed that I don't need to buy it for that reason...

Agreed. In fact I think I prefer the look of the rings. I mean it's more distinctive and exclusive to have the icon look but he actual look of the rings is nice...

Is it not the proportion rather than the absolute? Why do we buy cars that cost over £40,000 rather than cars that cost much less. Why do we live in big houses rather than small ones that would ordinarily be adequate

Why do we buy M5 rather M550i, why do we buy M550i rather than 5401, why 540i rather than 530I or 520d

Anyway I mentioned 'admiring' not 'envious'. I use things that I need, that I can easily afford, admire and would enjoy.

I see. And really it's not for anyone to criticise why you'd do anything

Maybe this discussion is less about one doing things because one envies the other: rather it is that one does things because one wants the other to envy one..?

Wink

I doing things I love to do, I use things I admire if I can afford them. I don't want to ever be envied. No matter the case we are all lucky to be able to drive BMWs

All G30s are amazing and nice. No matter if anyone can afford mid eq 520d or full eq M5.. by the way the one with mid 520d may have a house for milions € and the one with M5 a tiny flat :-) its all about personal pref and passion.

And ye.... we all are lucky that we can afford brand new perfect car as G30! (And others in that value)

Icon or Adaptive LED

Hello

I'm still confused on what my G30 comes with. This is turning on corners, even the fog lights are switched on. Changing focus on speed, auto dim and bright. But it doesn't do the fancy thing of creating a tunnel against the ongoing or incoming traffic. Do we call this Adaptive LED? Why doesn't it work as BMW adaptive LED?

Not all markets have light tunnelling approved by the transport authority. US is one such. I understand from other threads that the tunnelling to which we are referring here can be coded by clever people like Almaretto

I have it on my car, and it is absolutely worth it.

The first few times I used it, it was quite comical to see how the light gets dispersed when it sense oncoming traffic or pedestrians.

Now though I really appreciate it, as it does give you the maximum possible lighting when necessary, and you don't have to worry about blinding oncomng traffic.

Will definitely spec it in the future again.

Here is the code for those wanting to order it:
S552A Adaptive LED headlight

The selective beam feature of the ICON LED is quite sophisticated. It includes varying the width, length and direction of the beam based on the situation such as time of the day, nature of the road, cars around, presence of road signs etc. You get LED indicator with ICON LED whilst the the indicator with ordinary LED is Halogen.

Whether it is worth the extra cash is a matter of opinion.

If you are planning to keep the car, I suspect ICON LED might become standard with LCI and the ordinary LED would look quite outdated by then if the exterior appearance of the car is important to you.
Coming from full halogens on a E90, the standard LEDs in my 530i are a tremendous upgrade already. I don't have the automatic high beam assist, but the headlights turn in concert with left and right steering wheel inputs.

If you do lots of night driving in poorly lit or rural areas, the adaptive LEDs + High beam assist are probably well worth it. On the other hand, if you do mostly city driving or drive infrequently at night, save your money. The standard LEDs are mighty fine and do the job nicely.

I don't think so. In the G30 ordering guide, option 552 Icon Adaptive Full Led is an add-on for any model other than the M550.

No, the Icon adaptives are optional.

Am still undecided on them, as the nights have been drawing in over the last few weeks I have started noticing them more and more, as they dance around coming on and off and widing and narrowing on the country roads on the way home, can’t say they are much better than the standard xenons on my F10 for actually throwing down light.

Well you get two beams instead of one and a greater range. Can't be all that bad?
