Preference: DWS06+ vs PSAS4 vs QuatracPro
Hi everybody.
I spent some time with a Tire Rack rep discussing these 3 tires in the context of a G30 which also has access to a separate set of snow tires/wheels. His bottom line seemed to be that the Quatracs were ideal for those who needed the 3 peak symbol, and that they were more refined (soft and quiet) than the others... but less impressive in handling, braking etc. He thought the Michelins and Contis were very similar; Conti was more refined and better in snow/wet, Michelin has better handling but some hear annoying tread noise (faintly). Would anyone share to add to this analysis, or is it about right? Thanks for any comments. |

I've always loved Michelin's. My current vehicle came with the Conti's and now I'm a convert. They felt more secure than anything I've rode on in the rain. I don't have any experience with the Quantracs so I can't give any options on that.
DWS 06 plus or Michelin Pilots are the top of my list. |

Have had both DWS06+ and PSAS4. Conti is better in the rain, Mich has better handling as you near the limit, but is quite a bit noisier than the Conti. Conti has the better ride. For my current 540iX just delivered in July, I went with non run flat DWS06+ to replace the run flats.

DWS06 over PS, in this application. I had them on my M3 and I have no complaints whatsoever, and this was in Seattle weather.

if you live in upstate New York, as i'm sure you know one of the snowiest places in the country all seasons will not get you far, and the cold temps turn all-season into solid plastic rollers... i would go for a summer set

Thanks for the responses.
I agree about the need for real snow tires. My concern is about "shoulder season" and surprise snow. If I were to run a real summer tire (PS4S, etc) I'd have to install the snows in early October and keep them on until mid-April to avoid getting caught with summer tires in surprise snow. With something like a DWS, getting caught 100 miles from home with a surprise inch of snow on the road won't end in tears. I could put on the real snow tires around Thanksgiving and remove them in early-mid March. That is the thinking right now, at least. |
