Charging 530e @ 22kW
Hi,
according to this site the 530 supports up to 22kW charging. The three levels: 3.7kW, 11kW, and 22kW should correspond to the Low, Reduced, and Maximum levels we can choose, as shown here. However, looking for cables, I've noticed that the 22kW cables are 3-phase, 32A. So the obvious questions are: 1. Can I charge the car from a 32A source? 2. What happens if I connect the 32A cable to a 3.7/11kW 16A source? Sorry if these questions don't make sense, but I know little to nothing about electrical systems The cable I'm thinking of is this one: http://www.windandsun.co.uk/products...harging-Cables And here it's the spec sheet of the cable: https://www.micromatic.no/globalasse...2016.08.03.pdf Last edited by eddiehaug; 03-04-2019 at 12:59 PM.. read a bit further down
The BMW 530e is fitted with a 3.7 kW on-board charger for AC charging. This means that even when connected to a fast charger with a rated output above 3.7 kW, the BMW 530e will only be able to charge at 3.7 kW. this is my experience and I have my car set at max. |

Here's a screen capture from JuiceBox Pro 40 amp charger which displays the amperage at 15.3A, and a charge rate of ~3.69 kW. This 2019 530e is set to 'Max' charge rate from the idrive system.
