You’ll get it with the next pure combustion engine M3C and AWD. Why wait for the hybrid? It’ll only do that number if the battery is topped off.

Once everyone goes full electric 0 to 60 will all be equally meaningless, like every performance car will be at least high 2s if not getting mid to even sub 2 eventually.

Though I suppose stop talking about 0 to 60 might not be a bad thing, as it's not the only thing that matters...

You are not the only one. I don't know whether BMW can use their backward technology to integrate KERS into a high-performance combustion engine, but they should at least deliver 48v mild hybrid system like MB and Audi already have.

This is what is waiting for every car manufacturer out there, you can't expect to be driving around in diesel/petrol cars, when the whole world is moving away from fossils fuels. There is no future for fossils fuels unless some catastrophic disaster happens that shuts down our infrastructure and all electric fails then fossil fuels will probably be better but at that point i have a hard time believing driving our cars for fun would be a top priority over surviving instead.

I am sure every manufacturer will come up new ways of exciting people with their cars whether it be electric or not.

What worries me more is the fact that we are moving away from driving the cars our self to autonomous driving, because a law making government do not take in to account "being more fun" to drive your self when autonomous driving will result in minimal casualties in the day to day traffic and that is what a government would want to have 0 fatalities in traffic.

The top reasons for having speed limits is due to the limiting human factor in a situation when needing to react to avoid disaster, compared to a complete build infrastructure for autonomous cars that can keep speeds at 200 km/h without any accidents happening due to computers being able to communicate with each other and being able to avoid all form of accidents.

Full electric for a performance car is a no go.

10 minuts on track and youre batt is empty.

I would like 48volts system and electric turbo. But thats enough. I want no more weight no biggerM cars.

My M2 comp is already a very heavy pig!

My E30 m3 DTM is 960kg and 330hp no turbo. The drive feeling you get from lighter cars is so much better then 1600kg and 400hp pigs.

02.10.13.
The production date of the last NA M.
After that date its downhill, slow at first with turbos, and then steeper with hybrid before free fall with electric...

Your E30 is old, missing lots of safety and tech items that we now take for granted. Not to mention all those "pigs" you name blow the doors off an E30. Lightness is good, but far from the end all be all.

As for batteries, they do overheat and are heavy, but they also lower the center of gravity quite a bit, and the tech improves all the time. Soon enough, anything with an ICE will be obsolete.

Its going to be very heavy. Look at the 5300 lb weight of the Panamera Turbo S E Hybrid. They had to add all sorts of expensive hardware further disconnecting the driver from the road to handle the extra weight. The next M5 might be $30k more.

I just worry about cost. I mean the next gen M3 is already going to be expensive. With a hybrid system surely we can expect a 7-10k premium over the the preceding gen

Edit: no I worry about a lot of things actually. Like, it being mind numbingly dull but... the cost thing too

I’m curious what other brand you bought in the X1/X2 segment that is not FWD based.

E30 m3 might be old.

But add lightness gives more fun in driving!

Electric will be fast but will never give you the same emotion as with ice.

I will for sure not spending my money on electric fun cars. As s daily maybe but not for my weekend toy!

Indeed, this is the one thing automakers will need to solve if they want to make hybrid Motorsport cars. No one is going to want a hybrid-electric M3 if it weighs 4,900lbs.

This should have been the plan from the beginning. Remember when they insisted ‘i’ and ‘M’ were bookends and wouldn’t mix? And when everybody and their mom thought an M version of i8 would’ve been a good idea?

Good that they’re learning but sheesh, probably lost years in the process
