I took a road trip yesterday, first real trip in the 550. My most recent road trip was in the M4 (picking it up from the dealer) which was 11 hours and two tanks of gas. This one was 8+ hours and one tank of gas (admittedly on fumes by the end). The 5 has the automated cruise/steering stuff, which is much better than it used to be, but still leaves something to be desired and I turn it off most of the time. It came on the car, I wonder never order this.

The worst, and this has happened once before, is passing a truck on the Interstate that is a bit to the left in its lane, and the car does not adjust its lane position so that the proximity sensor actually went off as I'm going 75 MPH past the truck. Jeeezus.

Anywho, I was lucky to not see much in the way of road rage on this trip, I think most of that happens in town during the commute when people are already late and annoyed that they have to work. Or annoyed that they have to go home and deal with their family. LOL

So...

We're going up the highway (I-85) and it's 6 lanes with a warning "crash ahead" so traffic starts backing up and I'm in the right lane which is an "lane must exit" lane in about 1/2 mile, and the wife is telling me "you have to move over" and I'm like "I still have 1000 ft. to go!" and she says "you're being one of those people" and I say "we're in a BMW, they expect that" and the bozo in front of us merges over into the barely moving [...]

I was just notified of another vehicle software upgrade queued up. I'm gun shy...Last time I did that, it blew away all my seat adjustments. Hours of work to get that seat to my liking.

I did last one and seat was ok. I did the new upgrade as i got into work. Driving home ill
see if anything changed. I like the description they have about what they changed “quality adjustments”. Wtf is that shit?!? The way I read that was “we dug our roots deeper so we can spy on you more”

Not that this applies to you, but from what I understand, this update wreaks havoc on those pre-LCI people that installed US LCI tails and had them coded. Glad I went with Euro's, but I will never have my car updated. Everything works, why mess with it.

What is the software version on this one? I just checked and I dont have an update. Mine is running the 11/2022.30

I wish they’d let you know wtf they changed. Had to adjust my indi. Sport button setting. God knows what else they undid. Sounds like they made a change to way the engine idles. Also not as many pops and bangs.

I like the way my car idles, is this an improvement or (as typical) did they screw up everything that I like?

The last update wiped out my Bimmercode settings.

The current one appears optional (go to your MyBMW app to install...) so if there's nothing helpful, I see no reason to do it.

Yea I liked the way it idled too. I have to do all the updates cause I can’t stand to see the notification every time I open the app. It would drive me crazy. Just like when I see the wife’s email notifications on her phone “256”.

Yes, just hit backup within each module. I am pretty sure it automatically backs up prior to any coding session as well.

The problem is, when the cars software is updated, lot's of times the parameters change and the backup can't restore to the new schema.

Q: What cars will be available to test drive?
A: Each MTT event will consist of three different M Performance vehicles to test drive: XM, i4 M50i, M3.

I did read that. BMW actually warns you that anything coded was going to get blown away. But I figured that would be the case in any of these upgrades.
