You have to use app like Bimmer Link to open the exhaust valve and pull out the fuse to keep it open all the time. I did that on my 540 and it work.

On the 540, does the flap stay open for a while after a spirited drive, until the engine cools down?

If it doesn't open on sport+ at idle, maybe after driving for a while? Or does the flap close as soon as you shut off the car?

Unfortunately this link was pulled by BMW request.

Great thread, thanks to all validating operation steps.

I have pulled fuse during cold start and noticed my 2018 closes valves sooner than 30sec window description. I drove to destination, kept car running in Sport+, I then popped F203 (7.5A) back in and heard gate valve actuator open. So it didn’t stay open or was not open when ai pulled fuse.

Update: i let car warm up. Sport+ Off/on/off. Rev’ed engine. Opened. Pulled Fuse. 100% open.

Pictured.

Just confirm your flaps are open with phone flashlight, if they are open then pull the fuse, they have no power to re close without fuse. Using bummer link or code only work when your phone is hooked up and you have Bluetooth device hooked to car. Fuse is simple and easiest

Thanks. Have yet to do much digging in this space. I'll be using Bimmercode to disable ASD. Did the bypass harness in my M2.

I will say, after having flaps open for 6 months or so and putting the fuse back in, both of them rattle with cold start. I don't know if the tune I have makes it worse or not, but you can hear both of them rattling away while car is warming up.

Interesting... perhaps spring return relaxes being in open position over extended time.

So just to confirm, the sound with it open via the fuse method does not do anything more than reproduce the Sport mode sound when in Comfort? Sport and Sport + do not sound any different?

If you pull the fuse (when the flaps are open), the flaps will stay open all the time - when in comfort you just don't get the faux-exhaust piped through the speakers.

Exhaust Sound is the same in all modes minus the piped in noise.

Thanks, so I will take this as the sound (ex. the piped in sound) is the same as Sport, just all the time. I think I will leave it be. I want that WOW effect when I push the Sport button. Not that it's that much of a WOW, but I ride around in Comfort mostly and when I hit Sport, I do it when I want more power, I think having the sound paired only with this just adds to the overall effect of Sport. I leave the sound reserved for Sport mode.

Joe,
This maker might interest you more. Theirs is truly "plug and play" and unlike the Dinan, does not require any cutting into the wire loom for the 12vt power source.

Also, you can order it preprogrammed with different default settings than what Dinan offers. Dinan appears to be default in the "automatic" factory mode, and then press the button to open.

This offers various modes of operation when in default and when you press the button, but you have to order it the way you want it, and it cannot be changed after ordering. Automatic default and open when the button is pressed like the Dinan is probably most popular, but it does give you other options.

https://www.cgprecision.com/#!/VSC-2...tegory=8896209

Construction looks good as well. Pricing is competitive. I have not yet tried the product, or know anyone that has. And word of warning, their tech support is non existent. I emailed them a couple times in the past two months with no response.

Thanks Dave! I will look into this. My Dinan installer said the Dinan switch was not a trivial install, which to me meant $$$.

Here is the link to the install instructions for your shop to look at.
Pretty simple. You can do this yourself if you can do the rear diffuser swap. No cutting or soldering, just plug in, secure control box with socket set, route wires and done. They claim you don't even need wire ties, as the cable can be routed and secured under the edge of the heat shielding on the car.

This does look very easy. Are you thinking about doing it? I think you mentioned you have to tell them some variables so they can program it in advance. What would be these choices?

Hi Joe,
the options are in the ad listing itself:
https://www.cgprecision.com/#!/VSC-2...tegory=8896209

The standard set up looks to be "automatic factory default" and "open" when the button is pushed. But I could see where some might want the opposite, that is always "open" and go to the "automatic factory default" when the button is pushed. There seems to be other combinations available as well.

I noticed they also claim it can be programmed into your Homelink so you don't have to use their provided remotes. That is a neat feature.

Got it. I saw that but was confused. I definitely would want default push on the button to be Open and have the norm be the cars default settings.

I think I'm going to try this fuse thing on my next cold start. I guess there is nothing to lose.

Note in google searches, some sellers don't offer all the various options...some like ECS Tuning, only offer with their preselected settings. Seems to be MAP pricing at $199 universally, but some offer free shipping, others charge for shipping.

Also, in this thread, some complain the controller box can melt from heat from the muffler, though it continues to work fine. I suppose you could wrap it in some engine foil insulation from a speed shop. Not sure how close the controller box is installed on the M550iX. Scroll down in this thread to see an example of the melting https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...099274&page=15

I would wrap the controller box with this stuff before mounting

Just put this on my Christmas list. I am guess the stock configuration is what I want. Default unless I override with the button.
