Installed M5 comp exhaust on M550
I just wanted to share a pic of the M5 comp exhaust I just got installed on the m550. It came out pretty awesome. I also used an oem diffuser painted body color and got a plastic m performance style "carbon look" diffuser so I don't lose the truck kick sensor. The honey comb replacement reflectors were the icing on the cake. I am pretty pleased with the way it all came out. It sounds good too. Not too loud, but good. Not counting the diffuser cost and paint, the full exhaust was only $1500 installed, half of a decent aftermarket full exhaust.

Install went fine. Only modification needed was to add on some additional longer hangers for the mufflers. For some reason the tips/muffler weren't sitting low enough by about 1/2 to 1" as I couldn't get the diffuser on. I'm not sure if something is different on the M5 or if the angle of the piping welded behind mufflers made the tips sit too high. Either way it was an easy fix.

no, you need an M5 diffuser as the M5 exhaust tips are slightly more toward center. The M5 diffuser does fit m sport rear bumper as m5 shares same rear bumper. You just need to also buy the M5 exhaust support bracket which is just a big plastic piece that goes behind rear bumper that is shaped more for the m5 tips location. It also holds some sensors and wires if you have trunk kick feature.

I'm happy with the sound for it being oem and half the cost of aftermarket. It just seems like the full exhaust is quieter on my m550 that it is on the actual m5. Any ideas why that could be or am I just hearing things? Is it the difference in downpipes or something? Tuning?

does anyone know how the m5 comp exhaust sound on my car in above link compares to the Remus m550i exhaust? The m5 exhaust on my m550 sounds good but I wish it was louder.

The ACS sounds good, but I can't justify spending close to $5k for exhaust. I was thinking something around $3k like remus or other that would give my better sound than the full m5 comp exhaust.

Also, for around $1500, did you got it install from BMW dealership and I assume that I can replace the exhaust tips if I want to later? Thanks! |
