What is your go to driving mode most of the time

For me
Eco - long highway drives
Comfort - routine driving - most of my hours
Sport - kick down for quick situations or traffic
Sport plus - fun or aggressive driving

I have my default on start up coded for adaptive. Though I really can't tell a difference between adaptive and comfort that's how I set it

Eco is great except it seems to kill the ac, in south Florida you need all the ac you can use

City sport individual with engine in sport, gears set sport plus , steering/shocks set to sport.

Comfort, all the time.

I might put it into sport or sport plus once a month.

does eco pro actually improve much mpg in highway drives? I stick in comfort in highway just really dislike the throttle response (or the lack of) in eco pro, if idling around in town I'll stick with eco pro

edit: I suppose if I'm driving 3 hours and stick to cruise control then I'll try eco pro, but that scenario doesn't really happen often for me.

I think it averages about 35 mpg for me instead of 25 mpg. I only do on trips 2 hours of coasting or more.

Comfort 90% of the time, but I do move the shift lever to the left a lot in traffic, as I've found that having the transmission in sport mode closely mimics my former M4's DCT in Drivelogic 2 mode, which I used all the time. In traffic, it shifts less often, and stays in gear for coasting to slow down, so less braking. Otherwise, it's Comfort with the occasional blast in Sport Plus.

I used Bimmercode to set mine to start up in Sport mode rather than Comfort. I will often drive with the shift lever in Sport mode (automatic) around town. For the highway I usually switch to Comfort, also if wife is in the car so the BMW Performance exhaust isn't too intrusive. --Bob

Eco pro in FWY and bumper to bumper traffic when it's in "self-driving" mode.
Comfort mode in city when I am in control of driving it
Sport + when I want to have fun

For me, Comfort or ECO Pro. I like ECO Pro on the highway and comfort when in traffic.

On a longer 500 mile drive I took in the car shortly after we got and and were testing various things. ECO Pro added somewhere around 10MPG fuel economy or so. It also dramatically increased our miles on pure electric drive on our 530e. We couldn't detect a real difference in driving performance though (there was a minor impact on climate control though).

So my recommendation would be use ECO Pro for highway drives where you're able to use cruise control and will have a fairly stable speed. As I noticed that it got a fair bit of its boost from doing coasting a lot more efficiently. And I'm sure there is other stuff too, but that's what I noticed.

My experience with ECO modes, you only really gain fuel efficiency if you drive to the mode. The settings encourage a relaxed driving style. Throttle mapping and low rpm gear up-changes are the key means to gain mpg.

I've driven to optimise the ECO mode in several models, and yes, you gain mpg. More so in how you accelerate, slowly modulate the throttle, rather than in steady speed driving. It helps 'smooth out' the erratic driver. But drive in ECO as you would in Comfort mode, and mpg is near identical. Plus if you apply a few economy driving techniques to Comfort mode, you gain mpg like in ECO mode.

I definitely had a huge tick up in MPG going to ECO Pro. I was very shocked by this as I was on cruise for a while and my wife asked me about the various modes so I swapped to ECO Pro saying we'd probably see a tiny shift, but not much as we were already cruising. But we got a massive boost.

That being said, the massive boost may be limited to just the 530e. As the coasting was done purely on electric in ECO Pro.

530e, I understand could be very different, according to which drive program you are comparing to. ICE is pretty much dependant on the same functions, which ever model you are driving.

Why the "ultimate driving machine" would be driven in ECO mode is beyond my scope of thinking.

There are different levels of driving... even in a BMW. Different degrees of efficiency. We take our pick.

I have not and don't intend to drive in Eco mode. But that is me. There can be many reasons why a person buys/leases a BMW and we should not impose our views on others.

For example, I bought a 530e for environmental reasons. I don't care about mpg except to the extent that it is a proxy for pollution. I do a lot of local driving in pure electric mode (I can and do charge during the day as well as at night). But when I am out on roads that permit it, I like to exercise the car. That is MY compromise.

People who sometimes drive in Eco mode are probably making other compromises.
