My wife and I both have the G30. Mine is the 540 with M sport brakes and my wife has the regular brakes.
To me the M sports look great. I think they stop great. Slight squeaking at very cold temps and near the end of their lives. My wife’s are silent and stop pretty good too. Hard to say if the M sports are much better but I’ll keep buying mine for the cosmetics and and additional stopping power they may have. Same brake dust that is lots. |

In a one stop panic stop scenario there is NO difference between the brakes in teens of performance. It will 100% be tire limited and I have the stats to back that up. Benefits of big brakes is primarily (if you ignore looks) in heat capacity and dissipation, neither of which are limits that can be reached in any realistic street use (even aggressive street use). |

Some math
Vehicle weight @ 1600kg Panic stop from 200kph (124mph) to 0 Front rotor weight (single rotor) 10kg (348mm normal rotors on the G30) Kinetic energy @ 200kph (2500kj) Specific heat capacity of cast iron (0.46 kj/kg/Kelvin) So even if ALL the energy of the car went only into the front rotors alone (in reality aero drag would help dissipate a lot of this at least initially) AND the rotors didn't dissipate any of that energy into the atmosphere (unrealistic) , the rotors would only increase temperature by 260 celcius. That's a lot, but it isn't quite in oh shit brake fade territory yet and although you definitely shouldn't attempt another panic stop anytime soon, you can reliably expect your car to do this without trouble and without glazing your pads or boiling your fluid. Realistically your not going to be doing loads of 200kph to 0 stops ever and you'll need to do FOUR 100kph to 0 stops to equal the amount of energy as a single 200 to 0 stop (without any energy being dissipated into the environment) The real killer to brakes in the real world are steep and long downhill runs because gravity is constantly putting energy into your vehicle. Even the best canyon roads with loads of twisties aren't going overwhelm the crappiest 5er stock brakes. With that said I still upgraded my base brakes to the red M Perf versions because I like the look Last edited by Knifeedge2k1; 03-08-2022 at 07:51 PM.. Reason: Spelling |

Got the M perf kit on yesterday at the dealer. Just been bedding them in. The do seem a bit louder but that's to be expected with dimpled discs. Not 100% sure but the rears sound little bit rattly as well, is this normal?

Since I bought new it was a must have at only $650 for the kit. They look KILLER and feel great. Do I think they work better than the base brakes? Can't say. My gut says no meaningful difference other than probably pedal feel... normal everyday driving.
But the big brakes are for sure confidence inspiring. I drive fast and never even think about the brakes = that's what you want.

Are you sure you are not mixing up the blue Brembo M-Sport brakes with the red mperformance ones? There might also be red ones in the small disc sizes, Mperformance ones are 390mm + on the front i think compared to the more common 348mm or 374mm ones

Are we still stuck with factory pads for the ///MPerformance brakes? I'd really like ceramic pads, but don't want some of the "lesser" brand pads that are out there for our brakes. I'd prefer Akebono, PFC, Pagid, or Hawk.

Have any of the guys running M performance kits changed the dimpled rotors to either solid from the M760 or drilled through from the F90 M5. The crickets are really getting my my nerves now it's warm and I have the windows open...

Looks great! I noticed this is the M Sport brakes. Could you provide the EBC part # because I would like to know the right one to get for the M sport specifically. Thanks!

I think I'm just going to do an F90 conversation as I could use the 6 piston stopping power. There are quite a few totaled F90's in the United States and I can pick up late model with low mileage calipers for cheap. I would buy new rotors and pads. |

Front: DP32304C Rear: DP32089C Although the front EBC Redstuff brake pads indicate that it’s for “7 series”, it still can fit on the front of 540i w/ M Sport brake system! |
