MHD Black with Bimmercode

This is probably an easy answer. I hadn't used Bimmercode in a long time as I moved onto ProTool. I got the MHD black for ProTool which also works for Bimmercode. I used to use a Bluetooth OBDLink CX with Bimmercode but sold it. The MHD Black is WiFi.

Here's my issue. Even if I manually switch away from the Carplay WiFi network to the MHD network, the car keeps reconnecting to CarPlay, killing the Bimmercode session. I even turned off auto-join on the CarPlay WiFi connection.

First time using a WiFi adapter with Bimmercode and my iPhone.

Anyone have the MHD Black, use it with Bimmercode and have Apple Carplay configured with this issue? What's the workaround?

Found my answer in the Bimmercode manual:

Wi-Fi adapter connection
Plug in the adapter into the OBD port in the footwell on the driver side in the car.
Enable the Airplane mode on the iOS device.
Turn off Bluetooth on the iOS device.
Turn on Wi-Fi on the iOS device.
Disable CarPlay in the iOS settings (“Settings” > “General” > “CarPlay” > Select car > Disable “CarPlay”).
Open the iOS Wi-Fi settings and connect to the adapter network.
Keep the distance between the iOS device and the adapter as short as possible.
Open the settings in the BimmerCode app and make sure the correct adapter type is selected.
Tap “Connect” on the start screen in the BimmerCode app.

I'll stick with ProTool.

You could also, temporarily, turn off 'auto connect' for CarPlay and then it will not keep forcing a connection to the priority device.

I tired that before I found my answer and it did not work. Kept connecting. It's was the first thing I thought of.

In iDrive setting under phones, select the phone and switch to phone only option rather than AppleCarplay.
Might take a second for your phone to stop the carplay but works just fine.

Got it. When I posted this I did not realize you had to "kill" Apple Carplay. There are a handful of ways to do this, either from the phone or through iDrive. I was just thinking the manual choice of wifi (MHD in this case) should take precedence and not get knocked off.

As much as I like the MHD, you don't have to perform these extra steps with a Bluetooth Adapter.
