Hello fellow drivers. I have a problem. If my car is not locked from the key fob electronics in the car never shut down. For instance, I pull up on my driveway. Shut down the car unload the car ( if i have some shopping), close the doors and unless I physically lock my car from the key fob electronics in the car such as Idrive and the dashboard never shuts down. No matter how long it takes the cars dashboard and Idrive stays on. If I lock my car from my phone remotely electronics in the car never shut down. I took the car to the dealer and dealer in some away acknowledged the issue, as a remedy reprogramed the whole car, however it didn't fix a thing. What could that be?
Thanks!

Yes, I noticed this annoying feature as well. I just lock my car every time. I thought it would automatically turn off in time, but I guess I thought wrong.

Apple CarPlay is a bit clunky as well. If I listen to Amazon music, even when I turn off the car, it still plays on my phone. I have to restart the Amazon music app, then close it again for it to turn off.

Doesn't it drain battery? Is car going to stay like that for days? I timed it ones for 2 hours plus!

Absolutely it drains the battery. Its strange that this got past QA, unless theres some compelling reason why they allowed this…I don't see one.

Have you tried holding down the volume control before exiting the car?

That reboots the Idrive, right?

IIRC, there's an option in the iDrive to have the car shutdown after turning off the engine, than opening the door. Try turning the car off, then get out. If the radio stays on, try reopening the door and see if that turns off the radio. If that doesn't work, try pushing the start button a second time; that's a BMW thing from the F10 and (I assume) previous chassis.

Really weird ? My car doesnt stay "powered on " at all after I shut it down inside garage. And I never lock my doors. Sometimes it stays on for a few minutes, but never overnight or anything like that. The engine fans, LED interior, etc always are on after I park, but they always go out on their own.

BTW -- I'm also a fan of Amazon Streaming Music. The sound quality is AMAZING compared to Sirius and other streaming paid providers.

If you shut down the car via the button BEFORE you unbuckle your seatbelt, then everything will shut down when you open your door. If you unbuckle before shutting down (or don't wear a seatbelt) then music, etc. will continue to play unless you lock your door or the car kills it after a short period of time. Don't ask me the rhyme or reason, but this is how it works.

This!! I stumbled upon this through some trial-and-error as well.

Let me also add, if you have a passenger the electronics won't shut down until they get out. Also, I noticed if you open the door before powering off the car the electronics stay on.
If the electronics are off, and you open the doors again, the electronics stay on.

Ultimately, locking the car ensures the system powers down.

With these cars, doesn't the 'ready-ready state' switch off with a simple second push of the start button, like all previous models with start buttons?

Sure the G20 I had for few days did that, as it is my habit to switch down that way in my BMW.

Ok. I need to explain again. If I would not lock my car from key fob dash board and I drive NEVER shots off and stay on for HOURS!
If, for any reason I have to lock my car from my phone, car locks, doors will be looked, but in the same time dashboard and I drive is on for hours. It has nothing to do with who opens the door first or second or start/stop pressed before passenger gets out or I get out. If I lock my car from the key fob call essentially shuts down.

I was explaining normal operation. If these don't work for you and your car powers all these things unless you lock the door with the FOB then you have issues that need to be looked into by the dealer.

Thank you very very much! Absolutely. What you described is normally expected, my car , however is kind of weird. Dealer is not going much. I need to escalate it to higher level with BMW. I was hoping someone knows some easy fix)) like with coding or something)

Agree...

Systems should shut down in a few minutes, however you exit the car. May take a little while longer than when locking the car, before the car starts shutting down to 'sleep' mode.

Here's how I park my M550 EVERY time going into the garage.

I position in driveway ready to back the car into garage.
I ALWAYS unbuckle my seatbelt prior to reversing so I can get more movement.
After the car is parked, I shut down via the button, many times w/radio going.

Doing it this way, ive never had my car interior stay on.......ever.
The fans, etc stay on to cool the car down, but then everything shuts down automatic.

Correct behavior based on your order of events. The original poster's issue is nothing is shutting off even after a few minutes.

I just made an experiment. Again. Here is the sequence.
The car is off and completely locked. I unlock it remotely with my phone app. Kid gets his gear from the car. I lock the car remotely. The car locks and all doors are locked. Dash and iDrive stay on for 2 HOURS!

Something definitely ain't right. The dealer needs to dive deeper into the electronics. Maybe a different dealer?

This definitely is an issue for the dealer to check on. I will note this though, I have noticed locking or unlocking with the app is not the same as the FOB. For example, I have mine set to fold mirrors on lock. Works with the FOB, but if I were to lock it with the app, the mirrors won't fold. Just adding an observation to the conversation, your system should still shut down, locked or unlocked, FOB or app.

Correct. But in my case locking from the app just locks the doors without shutting down the rest of the car))
