Ramps for Oil Change?

Greetings, all!
I am not in the market for a lift this year, but would like to perform oil changes etc on my 550. Can anyone recommend a ramp that won't harm the front bumper? Thanks!

I personally use a Quickjack.

Ramps, you can't go wrong with race ramps.

I used the calculator and came up with a maximum angle of approach is 18.6° degrees on my M550i

You can use ramps RR-30 (5" lift) or RR-40 (7" lift, seems kind of aggressive).

The RR-80-10-2 is sweet, but it's 80" long. I can use this on my other car that is only 4" off the ground.

I would LOVE to have a quickjack, but unfortunately my garage floor has a slight grade due to my Septic system outflow pipe.

That sucks. The grade is that bad? You can roll it into the driveway if you have a level section. I have used it both in my driveway and inside the garage.

No, not that bad at all. It slopes down just a bit, which I actually like because in the winter/rain/whatever it all just drains out the garage. Its nothing ridiculous, but I was shocked at how close the Septic Engineer designed the outflow pipe to the surface. I would have gone deeper for obvious reasons.

My "original" house was built in 1941 BTW, so that may have something to do with it. LOL. I've done extensive upgrades to her.

I've used ramps inside my garage on my SUV to change oil, etc. It really works out well because the down slope and up on ramps gives me quite alot of ground clearance on the front end. Same thing if I were to do the reverse. I always use chocks as additional safety measures.

The raceramps are cool. I had never come across them. I think I might hesitate using the 8' wide one with a 550.

Maybe, if I'm really really good, Santa will bring me a quickjack!

I was talking with the guy who bought my e38, and I have severe facilities envy. He built himself a 40x40 foot pole barn with 12 foot ceilings and a "real" lift.

I was going to build a two car barn, thought 85k was a bit much 4 years ago….cant imagine the cost today. A lift would be very nice. For those n CT, country carpenters builds very nice stuff. They built my mother in laws house and i wound up having them build me a large shed to get all the crap out of the garage.

Went to my friends house to check his ramps out. Perfect. Part# RR-56-2. I swear they only weigh 2lbs each.

Around $400 for ramps? Are they gold plated? Made from some unobtainium alien material?

Nope, but they don't weigh anything….A few pounds. 12" wide. They also split… so you don't have an issue getting underneath from the sides. I think they're great….worth every penny for me.

I just bought a set that Can accommodate all my cars….especially the one that has a long nose and is only 4" off the ground. Find another ramp to do that. Im getting older, have a bad back, so slinging a ramp that only weighs a few pounds so I can do my oil changes effortlessly…priceless.

Thanks everybody...

That RR-56-2 looks optimal. I agree the price is a little steep (I got my first set of old fashioned metal ones free when my college buddy's Volvo bought th farm) but the light weight and severability seem like unbeatable features.

Definately not China pricing. Made in USA. I have the RR-72-2 ramps…need them for the Viper. These things were $100-$150 cheaper before COVID

Any trepidation about them being composed of foam? Any risk of all the foam cells bursting if, e.g., a teaspoon of gasoline hits a ramp? I'll probably buy them - esp. b/c they are domestically produced and patented - but I'd definitely give a hard look if anybody were selling an aluminum alternative.

I bought the Single piece Race Ramp. I did my downpipe with it and plan on doing my exhaust and oil changes as well. So much easier than jack stands.

They are definitely not cheap, but worth it if your going to be doing consistent work on your car.

I considered the 2 piece set, but I liked the simplicity of the 1 piece.

I looked at them, but they don't make one that will work on my Viper. I needed an 8 degree ramp with a 10" height. I also read some complaints about those cracking, but with those that had large SUV's.

I have both the race ramps and the quickjack system with rubber blocks. I use the jackpad made for the G30 on top of the rubber block on the quickjack.

The race ramps are quicker to use with some limitations due to the rise angle. It’s great for oil changes. Quickjack gives full access front to back.
