550i G30 - N63 reliability
hello,
want to buy 550i 340kW (2017-) but little afraid about the engine. Is it still the problematic N63 like in F10? (heating, oil consumption, leaking injectors, turbos..) Engine code for V8 in G30 550i is N63B44C? |

N63 used in the 2017 G30 is the 2nd technical update TU2. BMW has dealt with the failure issues and significantly improved the engines reliability. It also helped that they changed the oil change intervals from every 15K miles to 10K miles. I believe that change came in 2014.

already saw it few days ago, but I will probably don't buy 550i, looks too dangerous to buy. Maybe I will rather buy M4, from what I found over the internet it seems to be more reliable and more sporty (but less car options).

M4 is a very different car, m550i more a daily, family car that cruises superbly and serves as an occasional catapult but i would not take it on the track

"From one of the least reliable BMW engines to one of the most underrated BMW engines. BMW experienced early issues with the original N63. Fortunately, customer care packages dampen the troubles. Furthermore, issues were resolved with the release of the N63TU. This engine was basically a complete re-design of the N63"

Just had my 40K service on my 2019 M550. Absolutely no problems. They did notice an oil pan leak on the inspection (upper oil pan, does it have two?) and fixed that under the vehicle warranty.
