What Happened to the 540d?

As the question states, what happened? The car was released post-dieselgate, so were there just not enough sales? or did EU restrictions cause them to stop producing them? Just really curious as my friend in LA sent me a pic of two used 2018 540d's at his dealer each with about 4k miles on them. I guess they can't sell them. The strange thing is there was no press release, statement, nothing, it just disappeared from the website. I believe one 540d on here actually stated that they only sold less than 100 in the US, its a shame cause this was actually what i was thinking of getting after my lease ended, especially for the MPG and torque, and I really didn't care for the 530e compared to the idea of a diesel. The car seemed really promising but I guess BMW doesn't want to sell diesels in the US.

AutoTrader has a bunch of yet-to-be-sold 540dx cars at various trim levels still. If I was in the market, I would consider the car, but the all wheel drive to me is not a necessity and it would be another thing to complicate the car.

I just drove a 530e loaner and it did not endear. Nice job with its acceleration but fuel economy was not up to diesel standards. The G30 is a bit less attractive to me in styling and interior. Specifically, the information in the dashboard was haphazardly put in with the temp, time, and directional arrow being too small and dim. Gone is the very nice red gauge cluster at night as well as the non-reflecting built in screen that the G30 has tacked on and glare prone. It was still a nice car but no longer "soul food."
